Welcome everyone, we are excite and pleased to have Kyla Logan with us today.Ms. Logan will tell us about her recent book Catari Heat 2: and some of her other work. On behalf of Coffee Time I want to thank Ms. Logan for taking time out of her busy schedule to chat with us today.
Please tell us about yourself? How did you get started writing?
I live on the East coast of Scotland with my husband and two sons. They have been very supportive of my writing, in fact my husband has read the books I have written and has said he enjoyed them. =)
I only started writing just over a year ago, Catari Heat 1: New Beginnings was my first venture into the writing world.
What or who influences you the most in your writing?
I don’t know if there is anyone that influences my writing, but my love of science fiction and paranormal films and television series have had some bearing on what I have been writing so far.
What is your favorite part of being a writer? What do you find the most frustrating?
My favourite part is when I finish it, and send it off to my editor. =) I love that part as it means that I can now do some research on other idea’s that have come to me as I was writing.
The most frustrating thing for me is to get myself into the mood for sitting in front of the laptop long enough. lol
Do you have a particular routine that you follow when working on a book?
Not really, but before I start I do make up a character list. For the main characters I make a more in depth one, which has all the details that I will need for the story. Like hair and eye colour, height, siblings, where they live etc. anything that would crop up as I write.
What do you consider to be the key elements to a good story?
The characters have to be believable to the reader. If you can’t get readers drawn in after the first chapter, then you might loose them. You have to make sure that you have some kind of conflict, either personal or external in the plot.
What is your favorite genre to write? Is there any genre you are uncomfortable writing about?
My favourite has to be paranormal in any of the sub-genres that go with it, Vampire, shape shifter etc.
I will never write horror or mystery, I don’t read those genres myself, and so have no interest in writing them. I know that I won’t write a straight contemporary either, it would have to have some paranormal or fantasy element to it.
What is your favorite book that you have written so far?
That is a really hard one, Susan. =) I think it has to be CH1: New Beginnings, my first ever book. I really put a lot of time and effort into that one.
Most Romance Authors are also avid readers. What is your favorite reading material?
I love vampire books, in fact anything paranormal or fantasy, and you have me hooked. It doesn’t have to be erotic romance; in fact I have been re-reading Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar series, which is fantasy. Another author I love is Christine Feehan, I can honestly say if it wasn’t for reading her Dark series, and finding my way to her yahoo loop, I wouldn’ t be doing what I do today. Karen Marie Moning and her Highlander series, is another favourite.
I have just read the first two books in the Catari Heat series. What inspired the creation of this fabulous race of cat people?
Thank you for your kind words, Susan. =) Well New Beginnings started life off as an exercise in writing. My good friend Isy Jordan had been plaguing me for months to try my hand at writing, and I kept putting her off, until she wore me down. lol So New Beginnings really just grew until it is the story you can read today.
Can I say I surprised myself in choosing to use this idea to start with? I thought I would have written a vampire one first. lol I have always loved shape shifter stories, and the idea for this series had actually been on my mind for ages. It is slightly different than the original plot I worked out, but I think this way it works better.
Ashley, Jeran and Jarod are utterly fascinating characters? Were they easy or difficult to write about?
I actually found it very easy to write, I knew how I wanted Jarod and Jeran to act. Although they are twins I hope that I have made the differences in their personalities show clearly.
The only thing I had difficulty was with the ménage scene, as this was the first one I had ever tried to write. But the characters just led the way really. =)
Are there any more books planned for this series? Will we see any more of the enchanting characters from the first two books?
Yes, there will be the third and final book in this particular Catari series. It is called Mate Fever and it will include Garrick and Jilla in their hunt for their mates. Both of these characters were introduced in CH2: Double the Pleasure. They will of course have help from the characters from previous books.
What else would you like us to know about your work?
I have enjoyed writing the books I have written so far, and I am looking forward to bringing more to Changeling Press. =)
Can you tell us about any upcoming projects that you are working on?
I have just finished edits on Sea of Love. This is part of a twelve author series that Changeling will be releasing throughout February. My story is about Danara, a Mermaid and Taine a Selkie and their journey to find their life mates. It will release on 17th February. More details and the blurb can be found on my website.
It is a bit of a change for me from my kitties, but I hope that my readers will enjoy it as much as they have my Catari series. =)
Now that it is through edits, I can now concentrate of Catari Heat 3: Mate Fever.
What advice do you have for aspiring authors?
I am so new to this myself. lol The first thing is to make sure that you know what the publishers want. Check their websites for submission guidelines and follow them to the letter. Read some of the books already published, as that way you get an idea of explicitness of language that they prefer.
Join some of the many yahoo loops, and if you can make friends with some experienced writers so that you can bounce ideas off them. It does make a big difference.
Where can readers purchase your books? How can they contact you?
I would love to hear from anyone, my website address is – www.kylalogan.com and my email address is kyla@kylalogan.com You can find my books at Changeling Press
Any last thoughts that you would like to leave with our readers?
I have a new Yahoo loop that I share with Lacey Savage, called Sexy Delights. There will be guest authors and giveaways, everyone is welcome to join. The good news is that this is a promo free loop, apart from us and our guest authors. To join send an email
