Talking with Michelle Pillow
Welcome , I like to thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to answer a few questions.
How Long did it take you to get your first book published The Mists Of Midnight?
I heard back with a contract about a month after I submitted it, which was last January I believe, and now its out! NCP has been a great place to work with!!
How did you feel the day your book was released?
How did I not feel? LOL Excited, scared, excited….
Do you have a strict writing schedule?
Not really. I just write when I am in the mood. I can’t force it. Sometimes real life duties get in the way when I would rather be writing, but it happens. I am really lucky. I have a great husband who supports what I do and the long hours I tend to do it. *grin*
What are some of your hobbies?
I love writing, so I still consider that a hobby in some ways–though I am making a serious effort at it. I also did freelance photography for awhile and still develop my own Black and Whites. I’ve recently taught myself how to screen print. Playing with my daughter is always a joy (she’s 6). I own a tattoo shop and that keeps me busy. It’s a great place to work and I get to meet and talk with a lot of interesting, creative people.
Have you ever had writers block?
Yes, but that’s when I know I’m tapped out. Usually, if I don’t stress, go do something else, and then, bam! Another idea.
Are you working on any writing projects right now?
Always. LOL. I have 5 more books coming out with NCP. The Dragon Lords series which is about four shapeshifting Princes (futuristic paranormal-spicy rated) and The Tribes of the Vampire series is starting in July with the first book, Redeemer of Shadows (darker romance).
I have the second Tribes book in for consideration, along with a Contemporary Romance called ‘Mountain’s Captive’, some historical paranormals. I tend to write first, submit later. It keeps me from freaking out about deadlines. LOL
Right now I am writing a short historical paranormal, but I got sidetracked by the third Vampire Tribes book. Although, the voices started talking again last night and they’re working on another idea. LOL
Have you always want to be a writer?
Yes and no. For the longest time I wanted to be a starving artist in New York…sounded glamorous. Yeah, I think I still like the idea better than I would have the reality of it. LOL Photography was my passion for the longest time.
Writing was something that I dreamt about and just did, but never took seriously for a long time.
What was the very first story you wrote unpublished?
EEK! Ah, I believe I called it The Unwanted Bride. It was a straight historical romance, though I think it was considered a little too dark for the traditional publishers (thank goodness I found e-books). The second book I wrote was it’s sequel. I am almost scared to go look at it. I’m like on my 20th book now. I haven’t submitted them all. It was just something I enjoyed doing. I figure that I will slowly go back through them and submit them to NCP to see if they want them. *hint, hint NCP* Just Kidding!
Have you always wanted to write romance?
I have always been fond of romance and paranormal. I loved horror movies growing up, too. So I just try to combine all the different passions into my writing.
I use to write straight historical romances. Then, I tried my hand at a contemporary. I’ve always loved paranormal, esp. vampires, but there wasn’t a big print market for them. I wrote the first Tribes book anyway. Then, I wrote The Mists of Midnight, discovered epublishing and submitted it to them to see what they thought. No one else was taking ghost stories and I really, honestly, did not expect to hear back from them so soon. After that first contract, I went ‘crazy’ wrote the Dragon Lords series and a bunch of shorter works for NCP. I have notebooks full of ideas to keep me busy.
How can your readers contact you?
There is a link on my website to email me. I love email so don’t be shy! And I am most anxious to hear what everyone has to say about my work. (well, kinda anxious, it depends on what they say lol)
What is your web site add?

Who are your favorite authors?
That’s hard. I read more variety than I tend to write.
Non romance: I tend to read a lot of the classics rather than modern day, don’t know why. I loved John Steinbeck’s Travels with Charley, Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men. I also liked The Count of Monte Cristo, Great Expectations, Pride and Prejudice, Go Ask Alice, The last of the Mohicans…the list is endless.
Romance: I have been really into e-book authors. Jaide Fox’s Bad Boys are a lot of fun. Mandy Roth has some great stuff coming out soon, Daughter of Darkness. Just read Celeste Anwar’s Carnal Appetites, which is a shorter story. It was great. And I have a lot of stuff I can’t wait to start!
There are a lot of books in my head that I can’t remember the titles to, LOL. I’ve read so many romance novels over the years and enjoyed almost all of them, I can’t keep them straight.
How long have you been writing?
All my life. Novels I started about 6 years ago, but just jumped in with both feet and began them, so had a lot to learn. I only started really submitting them recently. I’ve also have had poetry published and have written for underground zines.
Do you have any thing to add?
Excerpts and blurbs to all my work is on the website!
