Which book is at the top of your keeper shelf, the book you like to re-read over and over? And why?

Books are like old friends. I have many that I reread time and time again. They never get old or stale. When I’m stressed or need a pick-me-up, these are the books I go to. Some books on my keeper shelf have been there for more than thirty years, while some are brand new. It’s really difficult to pick just one book. But if I have to, I’d have to say Mackenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard. This was one of the first series romances I ever read, and it’s still one of my favorites.
Mackenzie’s Mountain was released in 1989 and is one of the oldest books on my keeper shelf. I have the original Silhouette Intimate Moments edition—love that cover—as well as the ebook version. This is a timeless story of love and hope, sacrifice and redemption. It’s the first book in her Mackenzie Family series. Subsequent books followed the lives of the grown children of the original couple.
In a nutshell…Mary Elizabeth Potter is a teacher and self-proclaimed spinster who has taken a job in a small Wyoming town. Wolf Mackenzie spent time in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, but people still believe the worst of him. All he wants is to be left alone. When Mary confronts Wolf about his son’s absence from school, sparks fly. Their budding relationship is causing problems for them both, but when things turn dangerous Wolf will do whatever it takes to protect her.
Now I love a wounded hero story and Wolf Mackenzie has had more than his share of hardships. The book might be over thirty years old, but this is a timeless story of love blooming between two unlikely people. Both characters grow and change as their relationship transforms them in ways they could never have imagined. It’s emotional, touching, action-packed, and shines a light on prejudice.
It’s difficult to have to limit myself to one book. I have a lot of authors on my keeper shelf including: Jayne Ann Krentz, Shelly Laurenston, Julie Garwood, J.R. Ward, Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb, Nalini Singh, Maya Banks, Sharon Sala…the list goes on and on.
That’s the thing about books. They’re always there when you need them. And there are always new keepers to discover.

6 years agoI loved, read and reviewed the entire Hades Carnival and Linda Howard is one of my fav authors. I own over 500 books that I can’t bear to get rid of and have many keepers.
