This “Behind the Scenes” blog is part of a series examining my romance novels. In each blog, I’ll talk about why I wrote the book, share my thoughts on the plot and/or characters, and reveal what I loved most (or least) about writing the book. Warning: Blogs may contain spoilers.
Hi everyone,
Today I’m highlighting the third book in my Naughty Nobles trilogy, Ultimate Night’s Delights. The series includes Midsummer Night’s Delights, Midwinter Night’s Delights, and Ultimate Night’s Delights. Although the books are connected, each stands alone as an individual read.
In previous blogs, I wrote about Midsummer Night’s Delights and Midwinter Night’s Delights. Midsummer Night’s Delights introduced readers to repressed newlyweds, Julian and Annabelle. They are strangers trapped in an arranged, sexless marriage. To loosen them up, Julian’s father sends them to the Marquis of Demby’s estate to attend a Midsummer Ball. (And this type of ball isn’t for dancing!)
The second book in the series, Midwinter Night’s Delights, picks up six months after the last story and follows the continuing sexual adventures of Annabelle and Julian. (And yes, that novella is just as hot—if not hotter—than the first one!)
Ultimate Night’s Delights is the third and final novella in the series. I never intended to write a trilogy, but the characters kept popping into my head, and I knew they had more stories to tell. Readers and reviewers fell in love with the characters and the storyline, so I decided to write one more book that wrapped up the trilogy.
However, when I started thinking about the plot, I wasn’t sure what direction to take. I knew there had to be something interesting (beyond a naughty “anything goes” ball) that raised the stakes for everyone, and I thought about blackmail. (It’s always a good motive!)
From there, I developed the idea of the “Black Duke” and his mission to destroy Vincent. Then I had to devise a clever way to tie it all together at the end.
I also enhanced shared some insight on two secondary characters, Lono and Lobo. (Readers were briefly introduced to them in Midwinter.) Lono and Lobo are Vincent’s very devoted and extremely loyal employees. I don’t want to give away too much, but they play a key role in Ultimate Night’s Delights. This book also explains how they came to be employed by Vincent and Sabrina and gives readers a hint at what’s ahead for them in the future.
Readers have wondered, how did I pick these names for Lono and Lobo? I named Lono after the title of a Hunter S. Thompson book, The Curse of Lono. And Lobo? No, he is not a wolf—Lobo is named after the singer of the 1970s classic tune, “Me and You and a Dog Named Boo.”
I enjoyed writing this wrap-up to the Naughty Nobles trilogy. It was fun to think of clever ways to foil the Black Duke’s plan and redeem Vincent. Fans of the first two novellas embraced this sexy and satisfying conclusion to the series.
Here are a few kind words from readers:
Praise for Ultimate Night’s Delights…
“5 Stars! Lots of sexy fun! I enjoyed following the adventures of Julian and Annabelle, and in this book they’re no longer a shy couple. Vincent and Sabrina are fun and sexy and they’ve taught Julian and Annabelle very well. Vincent’s issues with his enemy, the Duke of Blackwell play out along the way, and lead to a very satisfying ending.” – N.G., Amazon Review
“4 Stars! Awesome finale! I love the characters and the plan they come up with to help defeat the Black Duke. I’m glad that Julian wasn’t an arrogant guy in this story, but a very concerned individual. Really enjoyed the characters and hope maybe there could be another book.” – Dawn, Amazon Review
“4 Stars! Happy to have Julian and Annabelle back again. My fave characters. Enjoy the story very much, but sad that this is the final book. Love the plan they came up to deal with the Black Duke.” – D., GoodReads Review
