QUESTION: Besides RT and RWA, what’s your favorite book convention to attend and why?
Helen Henderson said:
My favorite book convention is Create Something Magical run by Liberty States Fiction Writers. Now don’t assume that “magic” means the event is just for authors and readers of fantasy novels. Romance, science fiction, adventure and fantasy are among the genres represented. It is truly a multi-genre event.
As an author, the workshops are always an important consideration in selecting where to spend my hard-earned monies. Besides informative and educational sessions, although the conference is not in a major city such as Las Vegas, its proximity to New York City enables them to have both best-selling and award-winning authors not just as the keynote speakers, but for panels and sessions.
Attendees from throughout the mid-Atlantic region take advantage of the conference’s central location and access to bus and train transport. And if you need a break in the evening (or forgot to bring something) two malls are within a few minutes’ drive. For the more adventurous, extend the conference feeling by hopping a train into downtown Manhattan for a Broadway show or walk the Museum Mile.
2019 will be their tenth year. That much experience helps make logistic run smoother. Part of the logistics is the site. The hotel is not a mega-hotel where you have to walk 30 minutes to get from one session to another, yet it is spacious enough for larger sessions, a get-together cocktail hour, and more importantly, meals and the book fair.
No matter whether you want a face-to-face with an agent or editor, just want to hone your craft, or catch up with old friends, there can be one special something that makes an event special. A fond memory I have of Create Something Magical was sitting at lunch watching the covers of new releases scroll by on the large screen. At the time I was a newly-published author and I have to admit, there was a thrill each time I saw the cover of my book appear.
Create Something Magical is a spring event so this year’s is over. To get info on next years, http://www.libertystatesfictionwriters.com/2018/04/02/mark-your-calendar-for-our-10th-anniversary-conference/.

Hatchling’s Mate
[Fantasy Dragon Shifter Romance, MF]
The Parant possessed the ability to turn men and women into his willing slaves and an intense hatred of dragonkind. His goal was to rid the world of all things dragon including the dragshi, humans able to take on the form of their dragon soul twin.
From their birth, it was expected that the only two children born to the dragon shifters would marry. Unlike his female counterpart, no dragons sang a welcome at Talann’s birth. Now years later, even though Lexii’s dragon twin had awakened, there was still no sign of Talann’s. And he needs the power of dragon form to save all dragon shifters, including his parents from the cult lead by the Parant.
Pledged to protect Lexii until the dragon lord’s intended mate appears, duty requires Glyn to fight the growing attraction to Talann. A task complicated with the need to keep a secret no one could never learn and the price when the betrayal is discovered.
Love and desire, honor and duty clash in this action-filled novel in the world of the dragshi.
