Rochelle Delany has returned home to hopefully start anew, but also escape the trouble she left behind in California. Now that Rochelle has returned, she feels as though one thing after another is trying to force her out of the only place she called home. We see Rochelle’s growth as a person and Christian throughout the story.
Sandy Fairbrother is a faithful father of one sweet as apple pie little boy, Jace. Sandy has had his own bouts of troubles in the past, including becoming a single father. Sandy had a crush on Rochelle when they were in High School, but he never acted on it.
Rochelle and her brother, Austin, were adopted by Bessie, and although very close as children, there is a painful distance between them now. Rochelle wanted to broaden her horizons and make a name for herself, while also being able to help take care of Bessie and her brother. However, circumstances took place that caused Rochelle to lose touch with Bessie and Austin, until after Bessie’s death. There are other characters in the story that help us learn more about our main characters and give us someone to both cheer for and someone to throw popcorn at. One of my favorite secondary characters is Kat, who is not only sweet but also is the kind of sister anyone would be lucky to have.
The relationship building is slow between the main characters, but the faith growth felt right on point. The story has a slow start to it, but I am glad that I continued reading it or else I would not have met ‘Gus’ who, along with Jace, made the story an entertaining read. This was a great Prodigal Daughter Christian Romance that had enough angst and growth to keep the reader invested in the story.
