Bestselling author Victoria Sanderson leaves her lonely life in the city behind for a fresh start in the quiet town of Trotter’s Way. She expects solitude, beautiful scenery, and plenty of time to write. What she gets is a house with secrets, disturbing dreams, two dangerously intriguing men, and a four-hundred-year-old legend that refuses to stay buried.
Will Danvers is dark, enigmatic, and somehow connected to the legend Victoria can’t stop researching. Sheriff Oliver Weston is altogether different, a sexy, protective force who keeps turning up whenever trouble finds her…and trouble seems to be finding her with alarming regularity.
As Victoria’s dreams grow more vivid and the legend begins bleeding into reality, she’s drawn deeper into a mystery that has waited centuries for her arrival. Somewhere in the woods, an old well guards the truth behind a legend that has haunted Trotter’s Way for generations.
Some doors should never be opened.

Victoria opened the door to find a very tall, very handsome man in uniform.
He smiled and removed his hat. “Good morning.”
She blocked the sun with her hand and squinted to look up at him. “Morning.”
“I was driving by and saw your car.”
“Okay.”
The gorgeous man shifted, blocking the sun and giving her eyes a rest.
“Are you family to Belinda or Conner Evans?”
Victoria crossed her arms. “No.”
“Can I come in?”
“No. Who are you?”
He bowed his head, rotating the hat in his hands. “Sorry. I’m Sheriff Weston.”
“Is there something I can help you with, Sheriff?” All she really wanted to do was take two Advil and crash for a couple of hours.
With a hint of a smile, he said, “You’re not family. Are you a squatter?”
Victoria chuckled and rubbed her forehead trying to dispel the headache. “What would you do if I was?”
“Ah…” He stepped back and let his eyes roam from the top of her head down to the slip-on Skechers. “I’d have to run you off or take you in.”
The white smile stood in sharp contrast to his tanned face, and those blue eyes could easily melt her resolve. She sighed and rested her shoulder against the doorjamb. “I believe you would. But you won’t need to because I bought the place.”
“Bought it?” His right eyebrow shot up under his thick blond hair.
“Yes. I bought the house and the property.” Moving away from the doorframe, she said, “Now that we’ve established that I belong here, are we done?”
The sheriff strolled to the end of the porch and stared toward the wooded area behind the house. “How long have you lived here?”
“Just a few days.”
“Have you seen anything strange?”
She stood with one foot in the house and the other on the porch. “Strange?”
He turned toward her. “Out of the ordinary.”
“Is there something I should be concerned about?”
“No, ma’am.” He pulled a crisp white card out of his pocket. “If you see or hear anything out of the ordinary, I’m just a phone call away.” He handed her the card. “Have a nice day.” The sheriff trotted down the front porch steps, stopping at the bottom. “By the way, you never told me your name.”
“Victoria.”
The sheriff touched the brim of his hat with two fingers. “Victoria.” He got into his Bronco and drove away.
That was odd.
Why would he ask if she’d seen strange things?
