New Release: A Stranger in France- Romance-Suspense by Kim Knight

Evening all,

I’m Kim from London. I’m pretty new as a Coffee Time & Romance Author, so before I let you all know about my newly released romance suspense story set in London, France and the UK coast I’ll tell you a bit about me.

Bio:

Kim is 33, from London in the UK. She’s a qualified teacher and mother to a beautiful toddler. As a reader she’s head over heels in love with romance, historical fiction, crime fiction, African- American, suspense and thriller genre books. After submitting three chapters of a romance /suspense novel she was writing to a USA based publisher in 2016, she scored her first publishing contact. Kim’s first novel is released September 2016, A Stranger in France. Her second novella will be released Christmas 2016. As a writer Kim likes to create stories within the romantic -suspense and general thriller genres. Kim also writes beauty and book related articles published in Love Life, Live magazine.

When she’s not reading or writing novels of her own, her other passions include practising her French, fashion and spending time at her sewing machine dress making, watching make –up and beauty tutorials on YouTube, letter writing and being a mum.

OK now we got that over, here’s what’s new this month for all you romantic suspense lovers.

In a whirlwind of sexy, lustful romance Nicholas and Kate fall in love, Kate returns to London to a few surprises of her own and still very much in love with Nicholas as she makes yet another bold move. Touching on real life issues these two strong characters battle it out against all the odds in the name of love, across the UK and France.

Nicholas guides me to the side of the bar, to the back and unexpectedly we reach a lift, we step in and he presses P on the lift button. Alone in the lift I face him dead on, I can’t help myself, his scent, and presence it’s doing things to me and awaking parts of me that have been dead for so long since Danny and I hit our rough patch. I grab his tie and pull him towards me then kiss him with passion. He’s stunned and taken back I can tell. His hands are full with a champagne glass in one and a bucket with iced champagne in the other, he’s unable to touch me or push me away; by the way he’s kissing me so passionately in return I doubt very much we wants our passionate kissing to stop. We reach our destination and I release him, leaving a lipstick stain on his lips I playfully remove it with a finger and step out the lift in front of him swaying my hips. I half turn around to face him, Nicholas is still standing in the same spot I left him with his champagne glass, ice bucket and a huge wide grin on his face…. Damn he looks so good.

“What are you waiting for Mr D’Croix?” I turn and say over my shoulder in a seductive way, he laughs. “You took me by surprise Ms. Kate.”

What Inspires Me When I Write?:

So many things inspire me when I write, not just my love of it and passion for it. When it comes to story idea generation, creating conflict and drama for characters, I like to create a story line that the everyday average romance, suspense and thriller lover can relate to. By this I mean real life issues. I’m a big fan of reading within the romance genre, I love to read about love and intimacy and watching two characters fall in love in a straight forward heart melting way, it’s lovely- but personally as a writer I try to throw in real life issues and topics so my writing is modern , diverse and of course sexy! I don’t write for a gender, I just write for genres and hope both sexes enjoy.

I love a multi-cultural and diverse society as human being, I think life would be so boring if we were all the same and there were no other cultures, religions and ways of life or sexuality. This inspires me, when writing. I try to have diverse characters in race, culture, religion and sexuality to reflect our everyday society.

Music is a big inspiration for me also, I’m a massive music lover and I don’t write without some form of background music, unless I’m writing outside of my own kitchen like a café. When I wrote A Stranger in France I took certain songs and placed them within scenes, to add drama or help create a mood and show how a character feels rather than tell. Some of the songs featured just randomly came on my Spotify player while writing A Stranger in France, talk about the right place at the right time! They just fit the scene I was writing.

In A Stranger in France I used letter writing as a way for my main hero and heroine and her best friend to communicate while in different countries. This inspired me as this is a love of mine. The magical feeling I get when a personal handwritten letter arrives from a friend abroad or even in the UK is so exciting! And fulfilling (for me). This helped inspire me to create suspense, love and good old drama! As there is a natural delay with snail mail.

Being a women in her thirties inspires me, romantically you have different needs than when you were in your twenties.

Society inspires me, I’ve grew up in inner city London. This inspires me, especially when writing crime or thrillers.

Writing challenges/prompts set by other blogger which you can read on my author site also really motivate me.

I’m a massive fan of a lot of authors, but I try to be myself and not what is or has already been done- using my own inspiration.

What’s Coming Your Way Next?:

Christmas 2016 will be the release of my ”feel good” romance novel set in London. I won’t say too much! Apart from it’s a nice festive story that can be enjoyed all year around. At present I am writing a romantic-thriller… so a romance with a murder involved *wink. I hope for a 2017 release. Can you share a little something about yourself that’s not mentioned in your bio on your website?

I’m a sucker for animals. If I could take in every stray I would. I hate to see animals being abused, neglected and starved. If I see a cat or dog wandering around my neighbors, I’ll put food out for it. Going to the zoo breaks my heart. They should be set free.

I also love playing pranks and scaring people. I’m not mean about it though.

How long have you been writing?

Since my teen years. At that time, I used to write everything on paper. Some of my stories back then were 70,00 to 126,000 words. My hands were very sore. LOL

What have you found most challenging about it?

Promoting. I can sit and create a story from looking at a cracker, but promoting it is hell.

What does writing do for you? Is it fun, cathartic, do you get emotional?

A lot of the time it’s a release. If I’m stressed about stuff I’ll sit and put it to words in my books. It’s also fun. I add a lot of humor to my stories mainly because I tend to write dark stories.

Describe what your writing routine looks like. Are you disciplined with a strict schedule or do you have to be in the mood?

Definity in the mood. I try not writing when I’m in a sad or bad mood. I don’t have a routine. Whenever I get the chance to sit and write is do it.

Did you go into writing thinking that it would be a hobby or a job?

Honestly, when I fist starting writing it was for fun, a hobby. But when my first book was published I thought it would be a job.

What inspires you?

Everything. As I said before about seeing a cracker is true. I can look at a sunset and build a story around it.

I’m an avid golfer, not a good golfer, but an avid one. I go out in the morning every weekday.But I take weekends off and let the real golfers golf.

How long have you been writing?

I wrote a children’s story when my children were young. But I never tried to have it publish. Then in my 20s or maybe my 30s, I tried to write a romance. Again, I never tried to get it published. But by then, I decided I’d rather kill them than kiss them. So, I turned to mysteries. And in 2019, my first mystery, ‘Wayward Shot,’ was published.

What have you found most challenging about it?

Writing a murder mystery is not a problem for me. That comes easy. My biggest challenge in writing was my second book, ‘Death and Denial.’ I took my protagonist to Egypt. A country I had visited. I wanted to show my readers the sights and the feel of that country without making it a travel log. The mystery is foremost. I had the same challenge with ‘The Suspects. I took my protagonist on a bus tour through Northern Europe. I have had excellent reviews from my readers, so I have accomplished my goal of entertaining with the mysteries and showcasing the scenic and historic sights.

What does writing do for you? Is it fun, cathartic, do you get emotional?

Writing a story for me is like reading a good book. I know that sounds a bit odd. But I write what I would like to read. It’s fun but maybe I do get a bit emotional. I almost killed a protagonist in ‘Moving is Murder.’ Spoiler alert. In the end, I just couldn’t.

I started publishing in 2015 and can’t believe it’s been nine years already. Truly, the time just flies.

What have you found most challenging about it?

Pursuing anything creative means making yourself vulnerable. You’re sharing a piece of yourself with the world.

What does writing do for you? Is it fun, cathartic, do you get emotional?

Writing is all of those things and more. The start of a project is fun. Editing is cathartic, to take a rough draft and polish it to perfection. Hearing from readers is emotional. I process so much of my own life through writing (not that anything is autobiographical), it helps me make sense of the world.

Describe what your writing routine looks like. Are you disciplined with a strict schedule or do you have to be in the mood?

I love a schedule but as a mom I have to be flexible. My ideal schedule, aka during the school year, is writing from 8:30-10am, exercising, writing/marketing/editing from 12pm-2:30pm on weekdays. I try to take weekends off, and I try to stick to working only during these hours so I have a balance between work and life.

Did you go into writing thinking that it would be a hobby or a job?

I started writing as a hobby, but once I started publishing I began to think of my work as a job.

What inspires you?

I find inspiration everywhere. From funny things my kids say, articles in newspapers, hobbies I pursue, the list goes on and on.

As I finished each one I told my husband, “I could have written this.” Finally he retorted, “Prove it. Sit down and write one.” My husband’s dare was the impetus I needed to take the plunge. I have three published romances, all of which earned 5-star reviews and several first place and runner-up awards.

I’ve been writing as long as I can remember. I have a vivid memory of sitting in an empty stall of the stable on my Grandmother’s estate as a precocious five-year-old. I traced the outline of a horseshoe in the dust of the floor and imagined it was my pony in that stall. I stood and pretended to nuzzle the equine. On the wall I spied the empty water bucket and glanced inside. A ferocious giant spider (remember, I was only five) seemed to glare at me amidst the silk of the web. I went back to the house and drew pictures that told the story of the unlikely friendship between the equine and arachnid, although I believe I used ‘pony’ and ‘spider.’ My mother once told me my story was quite detailed and imaginative. From then on I was off and running, filling drawers with stories.

On the wall I spied the empty water bucket and glanced inside. A ferocious giant spider (remember, I was only five) seemed to glare at me amidst the silk of the web. I went back to the house and drew pictures that told the story of the unlikely friendship between the equine and arachnid, although I believe I used ‘pony’ and ‘spider.’ My mother once told me my story was quite detailed and imaginative. From then on I was off and running, filling drawers with stories.
