Lucy is a writer on a popular cable television show. She is struggling to make herself stand out among the male writers with limited success. She does not have much time for a social life and her best friend is someone she met online named Julian, who lives on the other side of the Atlantic.
Julian has strong feelings for his online buddy but no opportunity to meet her until his company promotes him and sends him to the New York office.
Lucy is very attached to her online friend Julian and fantasizes about meeting him. That is unlikely to happen with her living in New York and Julian in London. Her dismal social life seems highlighted when her sister gets engaged and she has to go to the engagement party at Liz’s very married friend Maria’s home. Liz’s fiancé’s best friend and soon to be best man is visiting from England and they want her to meet…Julian?
I really enjoyed this fast read. Lucy is a great character, very real, not too sweet or too jaded. She genuinely loves her sister but is a bit jealous. She is also concerned that she has not heard from Julian in a while. It is serendipity that Max and Julian are friends, but Lucy was not ready to meet him in person yet. He is even more attractive than she expected and she does not know how he feels about meeting her in person. Obviously she feels a bit ambushed at a place where she is never comfortable anyway. I could see why she did not like Maria; I did not either, even though I could see her nose was a bit out of joint at not being asked to be Liz’s matron of honor. This story is very well written and I do like a happy ending.
