Good morning, Renee and welcome to Coffee Time Romance. Please grab a seat in our cozy recliner, and be sure to get some delicious baked goodies off the table. They are all calorie free. Karenne made sure to take all the fattening stuff out. Oh, and don’t forget to slip on the relaxing fuzzy pink slippers. Now, let us begin, the readers are very eager to learn more about Renee George.
Thank you, Cherokee! It’s my pleasure to be your guest interviewee today
Renee before we begin discussing your book, Midnight Shift, I want to take this time to tell you, I love your lively website. The covers displayed on your books demand a second and third look. I found them fascinating.
Again, thank you so much. I really wanted the Midnight Shifters series to reflect a cross between Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance.
Now please tell the readers about you book, Midnight Shift? And where the idea of the book stemmed from? Would you please share with the readers the other series that follow?
Midnight Shift (Book One) (www.midnightshifters.com) is about Benie Dilian, a slayer who hunts other worlders. She has been raised to despise her own kind, but she soon finds out she might be their only hope.
Blurb: When Other Worlder monsters start hunting slayer Benoica “Benie” Dilian, she enlists the sexy genius Ian Arent and the hot telepathic werewolf Trace Calder to help find out who is trying to kill Benie–and why.
But as the investigation takes them deep into the Other Worlder community, Benie discovers a dark truth that may well destroy her. Only the love of the two very different men can help her survive and accept her ultimate destiny.
The other books in the series are The Bear Witch Project (Book Two), A Door to Midnight (Book Three), A Shade of Midnight (Book Four) releasing January 31st, and Midnight Before Christmas (Book Five). Each has a new heroine and hero (or heroes), and they are characters from previous books who have their own stories to tell. I love writing in this world. I hope to revisit it over and over.
I started with an idea of a woman who could shift her skin like a chameleons, and her genius best friend had made it his life work to discover why. His hypothesis is that OW (other worlders) are simple new branches of species evolution on earth. Not magical or paranormal. This started the world for me. I loved the idea that all creatures of myth and fantasy actually existed, but instead of being “magical beings” they were actually just another branch of human evolution.
When you are composing any of your books, do the ideas come easy for you, or bits by bits?
The initial idea for a story hits me a like BAM! I usually know where I want to start and where I want to end. The middle parts don’t come easy at all. LOL It’s a bit by bit process.
Can you tell your readers what other books you have planned for the future, besides this series?
In my Peculiar Mysteries (www.peculiarmysteries.com) series, I have novella “My Furry Valentine” just in time for Valentine’s Day, and this spring the second novel in the series, “Thank You For Not Shifting” will be released.
In my Lion Kings (www.lionkingshifters.com), I will have the second novel coming this summer.
What does your writing place look like?
I have an office in my house, but I do a lot of writing out on my porch during the summer, and in my easy chair in my office during the colder months. I have white board calendars on my wall with deadlines and word count goals, and I have a corkboard near my easy chair that I can pin story points to. Oh, and I just converted my treadmill into a treadmill desk. I have set a goal to be more active this year. I really can write while walking (no one is more amazed than I am. LOL).
When looking for a good book to read, what draws you to the book first, the cover, or the synopsis inside the book?
The cover, definitely. But then it’s the blurb and the first two pages. If I can’t get past the first two pages (which luckily, with ebooks, you can check out samples before buying), then I pass on the read.
Describe your perfect vacation spot and if you could go tomorrow, who would you take with you?
My perfect vacation spot is remote, warm, and quiet. It also has a good power source (need electricity!). Bug free is always a bonus. If I could go tomorrow I would take my fully loaded ebook reader and my lap top (which is why I need electricity. These babies will need charging!)
If you could change anything in your life, what would it be?
I would change (and I’m actively trying to change) my compulsive procrastination. It stems from a depression, fear of failure, fear of success, of not being liked, of having to be perfect, and sometimes just sheer laziness. I manage to get tasks done, but a lot of times it’s in a panicked rush. That is not a fun way to live! So far, I’ve stayed on top of 2016. Cheerleaders are welcome.
Is there something in your refrigerator or kitchen cabinets that you must keep completely stocked on your shelves?
Coffee. I like it black and strong. No cream or sugar. No fancy flavors. Just strong black coffee.
Which would you prefer, hiking in the mountains, or hanging out around the beach areas?
Hanging at the beach…with a book to read, of course!
Thank you Renee for being with us today. Keep those great stories coming, and I wish you the best.
