Today I have the wonderfully talented Selina Blake, her amazing vampiress and hopefully that cute shifter of hers.
Hi Selena welcome to Coffee Time Romance and thank you for allowing me the opportunity to talk to you about your excellent book I just love that sexy shifter.
Thanks for having me.
I understand that all three of the Stormy weather books have been very successful and I hear awards have been mentioned.
So far the Stormy Weather books have been very successful thanks to my wonderful readers. They seem to connect with the characters and enjoy these shorter sexy reads. Bound and Determined was up for a few awards earlier in the year. It was totally unexpected and very special.
Would you like to introduce us to your hero and heroine both are very strong characters who work well together.
Laurent Deveraux is a rough and tumble sort of guy. He’s lived a long life, seen and done plenty of things. But the one thing that still haunts him is the death of the love of his life, Violet.
Cayenne is an assassin. Incredibly beautiful and could be Violet’s twin. But she isn’t. She is in fact Violet, now a vampire, and under a spell that has bound her memories. Her next target is Laurent.
If you could have lunch with any of your characters from any of your books who would it be and why?
Burke, I think. He’s this huge, tower of a man, with a deep voice and laid back style. He’s the type of guy that when he speaks, people listen to him and I admire that. He has a quiet confidence and you couldn’t tell it by looking at him, he has plenty of secrets.
If you could add a 3D element to your books what would you add? (Smell, touch, taste etc).
Smell, definitely. I’m always disappointed that I can’t smell what the characters smell. Scents and memories are closely tied together and I’d just love to be able to smell the fresh cotton scent of the hero’s shirt, or the light jasmine fragrance wafting through the evening air, tangling with the salty ocean breeze.
Why a vampiress, there are a lot of different shifters out there why did you pick a vampiress for Laurent?
Without giving too much away… A vampiress made sense. Laurent was so devastated by her death…but she wasn’t really gone. She was turned.
How do you balance your writing with your home life? Do you have a schedule or just write when you feel the need?
I tend to do things in batches. All the laundry one day, all the writing one day and so on. It helps me focus on that single task. I write what needs to be written when it needs to be written. If that means cranking out 6k in an evening, then my fanny is in the chair until that 6k is finished. As a side note, I write best at night.
If you could be transported to any time period which would you choose and why?
Oh my gosh. I don’t know. This is why I don’t write historicals… I never paid attention in history class. But… I’d have to say ancient Eygpt…there’s something incredible about that time period. Both mysterious, exotic, and yet forward thinking.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve dabbled in it all of my life, but I’ve been serious about publication and my writing career for about two years now.
What is your favorite colour and why?
It actually changes from month to month. I used to answer Purple. But then I noticed a lot of red in my wardrobe. Pink holds a special place in my heart. This week I’d have to say my favorite color is Magenta. Yeah, magenta sounds good.
What do you have planned for the rest of the year?
Write, write some more, and then write some more. 🙂 Seriously, I have a lot of characters talking to me right now…so I have a LOT of writing to do.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us about?
Andre’s book will be available June 5 of 2009. It’s titled Mated to a Cajun Werewolf. We’ll finally figure out Andre’s secrets and also, get to see the couples from the first three books.
