Welcome, Nancy Adams, author of The Soul Within, an erotic novel published by Total E-Bound. Here’s the enticing blurb: Alex’s body is in a coma. His soul, however, is not. Desperate to become whole, he must first convince stubborn beauty Evening Sinclair that he is not dead.
Nancy, what jumped out at me about this book is this proverb you used: The soul is not where it lives, but where it loves. Is this the inspiration for The Soul Within?
Thank you so much for having me today.
No! Funny enough, I stumbled across it when I was looking for jokes. I was sending my nephew and niece Easter cards last year and I wanted to print off silly kid jokes to put inside the cards when I saw an advertisement for a Quote site. I was curious so I checked it out and found the quote. It’s a beautiful passage, and I knew right away that I wanted to include it some way in The Soul Within.
I’m surprised about the Proverb because it so fits the story well. Did you do research on the soul? The idea of merging?
I did, but the information I found was technical and long winded in its attempts to explain what a soul was. It was far too serious and not what I was hoping to find. I wanted readers to connect to Alex, and so I decided to create my own version of a soul and kept the idea of it as human as possible.
Merging is the work of my over-active grey matter. I came up with the idea first and then had to figure out what to call it. I settled on merge after using the highway one day, because you know…you have to merge into traffic. LOL. Is that crazy or what?
Using “merging” is inventive. It’s what authors do best and I think conveys the idea well in your book. Is median and merging a Scottish thing?
In my mind it is. LOL
Scotland has such a mystical history. I ran across so many folk stories filled with superstition and legends. Tales about Brownies, Banshees, and Kelpies, as well as tales about the different families in Scotland, that had Second Sight. Those stories sparked so many ideas that I just went with it.
Are any of these fables true? Who knows? Then again, when it comes to Scotland you never can tell. LOL
I noticed military stuff popped up in The Soul Within. Are you familiar with the military?
Yes, I am. My husband and brother are both in the Canadian military, plus I have many friends in the military. I was also fortunate enough to work for the Medical Clinic at CFB Edmonton, as patient administration. It was a great opportunity and I had a great time. Most people would think I’m nuts, ‘cause… really? Who wants to work with a bunch of sickies. But I really enjoyed working there. Not to mention, it gave me a better understanding of the daily lives of the men and women of the Armed Forces. They are truly amazing people.
Not to mention…it helped me understand work conversations I had with my husband. Military folk like to abbreviate EVERYTHING. LOL
LOL. Handsome says I talked abbreviated and I was never in the military. How did you get from medical records/patient admin career to writing erotic romance?
Honestly, it was purely selfish reasons. I had two small children, my life was nothing but, diapers, feedings, play dates, and the worst, snotty noses…yuck! My life circled around the needs and wants of my kids, there was no ‘me time’. So, I decided I needed something for me and me alone, that’s when I began taking creative writing courses and became hooked on writing.
I have to say I love the ending. What is the hardest part of writing–drafting, editing, research, or marketing? Why?
*blush* I’m so glad to hear that! I really like the ending too. It actually made my stomach flip when I was typing it out. LOL
Out of the four, the hardest part of writing for me is the marketing; everything else is a breeze in comparison. Before my first manuscript was accepted I only focused on my writing, I didn’t look at what was to come after my story was published. Thankfully, my publisher and the other authors over at Total-E-Bound are very supportive and they offer a lot of ideas and tips to get the marketing ball rolling.
Total E-Bound was smart in getting this book. What is your newest project? Anything else you want to share?
On January 7, my newest book was released. It’s a contemporary/fairytale erotic romance titled The Bannockburn Spell. This was the manuscript I began working on at the beginning of my ‘Me Time’. LOL
Here’s the mini blurb:
With the help of a bet, an eight-hundred-year-old marriage contract and a spell, ex-SBS soldier, Will, might just have enough in his arsenal to capture Meghan’s heart.
I’m also ¾ of the way through my next stand alone. It is a contemporary/shifter erotic romance, set on Vancouver Island, British Colombia. Plus, I’ve started book two in my Out of Time series. It will center on Capt. Eric Graves. Ohhh! I just love Eric, he is super yummy!
Oh my! Those books sound fantastic. Now, let’s do a speed round:
Favorite color: Blue
Favorite drink: Pina Colada Yummy!
Favorite movie: Fast Five (Vin, Paul, and Dwayne! All I needed was Gerard Butler to show up in a kilt and I would have been in heaven. Okay, that’s a lie. I don’t need the kilt. LOL)
Favorite accessory: Scarf…silk or otherwise *wink *
