Hello, We are happy to have Lise Fuller with us today. On behalf of Coffee Time Romance We want to wish Ms. Fuller a warm Welcome. Today, we are asking Ms. Fuller about her story, On Danger’s Edge, a Suspense Adventure.
Lise can you please tell us a little about you and how you got started writing?
Wow, ok, well, I’m a mother of four and a grandmother of four. I keep fit by working out and lifting weighs (see my fitness blog at www.lisestips.blogspot.com and why I do this at my website http://www.lisefuller.com/fitness.htm). Yes, those pics are of me. I’m working right now to lose some weight to compete in another bodybuilding comp late spring, so there you go.
As far as getting started in writing, well, my first stint was when I was about six and wrote a play called “Love”. It should have been a warning as to what was to come! However, as I went through school, I always thought I’d be a scientist, but then I became a young mother and studied business instead. After earning my CPA and MBA and working as an exec for a while, I finally decided to quit when my husband deployed to Afghanistan. Now, I use his experience to keep me on track as far as the technical aspects of my stories–since, right now, my heroes are all Special Forces guys. And I love them all!
I have read On Danger’s Edge a wonderful book can you tells us about this book?
Whew! Well, I never really know where my stories come from, but let me post a short blurb here that will give you a brief about the story. BTW, I love this story and it does reflect some of my real life experiences. My first marriage was abusive and this is where I get some of the heroine’s angst (Rorie Lindsay). BTW, this is in e-book right now but will be in print in March and available at Borders, etc. Also, it’s up for the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Award for 2006, so cross your fingers for me! Here’s a blurb~
On Dangers Edge By Lise Fuller
Fear be damned…
…is the code photojournalist Rorie Lindsay lives by. Free of her abusive ex-husband, she celebrates her divorce with a one-night stand then heads to her next photo shoot in the Panamanian jungles, thirsting for adventure. Finally sensing her life is her own, Rorie relishes her autonomy until guerillas take her small troupe captive. Now, in order to survive, she must match wits with the soldier who came to save her—Chief Warrant Officer Tom MacCallum, the same stranger she’d spent one incredible night with.
Tom couldn’t forget the passionate brunette he’d bedded—a vain attempt to assuage his guilt over a comrade’s death. Like his father several years before, Tom had been unable to save his friend. Driven in his Special Forces missions, the failures haunt his private life. Because loved ones die, he’s refused to commit himself to a woman. Still, he longed for something with Rorie. Unable to find her again, he’s encouraged when he sees she’s in the party he’s rescuing—until the rescue effort goes awry and he finds the terrorists hot on their trail. Now, both their lives and their destinies are…
…On Danger’s Edge.
Note: On Danger’s Edge was previously self-published in 2005.
What kind of research did you have to do for On Danger’s Edge? How much time does research take before you start writing a story?
I did a lot of research. One, I used some of my husband’s experience in Panama when he was there with the army–training supposedly. Then I did a lot of research on line–about Columbia and Panama, and read some of personal blogs about people who had been in this area. I also read a LOT about the US army and tactics, etc. Anything that talks about the personal aspects of fighting, etc. Then I had the opportunity to go to Guatemala for an archeaological dig. It was awesome. And I really got a different perspective of the jungle, etc. which was important in this book.
How many more books are you planning in this series and will we see some of the previously characters ?
There’s 5 books planned for this series. As you know, Intimate Deceptions is already out in e-book (it received CTR’s first Reviewer Recommend Award! Thank you!), and it’s been getting great reviews. Each book will have a hero from the Special Forces team–except the last. And I’ll leave that as a surprise. And yes, some of the same characters will come in. In fact, in the current one (the third) I’m writing about Rick Hansen, the Intel Sergeant on the Special Forces team, I’m expecting that Chief Tom MacCallum and Captain Mark Garcia will pop in for a short moment.
Do you use an outline or just write off the top of your head?
Good question. Actually, it starts with this scene I can’t seem to shake. Then I develop to some extent the characters, then a skeleton of a plot. Then I write. After about three chapters, I know the characters on a much deeper level and things change. This is when I really get into it. The plot firms up, I know where I’m going. But the characters really write the story.
When is your favorite time to write? Do you have a schedule?
Another good question! I try to take care of the business side of writing in the morning. Publicity is hard! And so time-consuming. But if you don’t get your name out, people don’t know they have the option of getting your book. So, I tend to write after my son goes to bed at night–actually I start at about 8:00 and end at 10:30 and I try to do this six days a week. However, if I get the chance, I write when I can–but those hours I mentioned are pretty firm for me.
Lise how long have you been writing and when was your first book Published?
LOL! I love this question. Like I mentioned, I’ve been writing since I was about 6, but the creative writing more or less came and went until I was in my late 20’s and decided this is what I wanted to do. It took me until my late 40’s before I published. I’m just glad I did before my mother passed on. She was so proud. Oh, and my first book was published in 2005.
Do your characters ever give you a hard time and change the story plot?
All the time! Again, I really get to know them after the first few chapters. But after that, whatever I throw at them, I know how they’ll react. I’m definitely a character driven writer.
Where is your favorite place in your house to write?
Depends on the season! When it’s nice out, actually I like the backyard in the area we newly made a brick patio. It’s great. Then in the winter, like now, I like my living room. It’s quiet there and we have a newly installed electric fireplace which sets the ambiance at times. Love it.
Lise you have another book out that is not Suspense Adventure can you tell us about it?
Oh, yeah. Cutting Loose is a VERY fun contemporary that’s out right now in e-book. It’ll be in print this April and available at Borders, etc. It’s hot, sexy and just a lot of fun–a clash between a brilliant nerd and a sexy-as-hell ex-pro ball player who’s in charge of his own ad firm. Here’s a blurb~
Cutting Loose By Lise Fuller
Once Burned…
Reserved zoologist Miranda Harper would do anything to avoid dating a jock, especially the self-absorbed athletes sent by her wilder young sister, Danielle. Yet when the zoo’s administrator threatens to sell her favorite chimp, Mira needs the clout only her sister’s ad agency can bring. Dani agrees — with a catch long enough to make a wide receiver proud. Mira must run wild with her for seven full days and lend her voice to a new commercial. Problem is, Mira has to work with Dani’s ex-pro football-playing boss, a man she’s determined to avoid yet who fires her libido like no other. When her sister entrusts the job of “going wild” to her hunky boss, heat broils between them, and Mira is forced to face her greatest torment — her latent sexuality.
Twice Shy…
Gary Staunton’s biggest deal to date depends on the Mira’s sexy voice. But his concentration with the job shatters around her and his desire for her lush body leads him astray. He’s damaged property. She deserves better. But when Mira switches the deal from platonic involvement to passionate encounter, Gary can’t resist temptation, risking the future of his firm — and his ego.
When you have a moment to yourself what is you favorite thing to do besides write?
Ok, you’ll laugh. I read. I love to read. And I’m sad I haven’t had time to do this lately. I also love to hike and get outdoors into nature. I love to travel and discover new places and peoples. And when I go, I love to learn about other cultures. It’s fun and it’s enlightening.
Lise on your site you have a fitness page can you tell us about this?
LOL! I guess I mentioned some of this before, but when I was a kid, I loved the outdoors. However, when I got older–and had real world issues to deal with–I let myself go. I gained weight and my cholesterol got to almost 300. Instead of going on meds, I decided I needed to change my lifestyle. It was hard, but I did. Without ANY medication, I brought my cholesterol down to under 200 and I’m 51 years old. Now I warn you, I’m like a reformed junkie or something. I preach the health card a lot–and mostly using your own common sense. People needs to figure out what will work for them, because quite frankly, we are all different! My quest in having the fitness page is NOT to talk about myself, but to set an example that others can follow. Not that I’m anyone special–and that’s the point. If I can do it, anyone can do it. It just takes commitment, determination and discipline.
Lise can you tell us about your competitions?
I’ve competed three times. The first tiem I did terrible, but you know what? At least I looked good enough to get on stage, and that was my main point. Hey, I’m out there against 20 year olds in some cases, so I don’t feel bad at all. I’ve done three comps so far– the last one I placed 4th in one of my divisions, so I was happy. However, I keep working at it. Last year, I didn’t compete at all. With my husband deployed and my Mom’s illness and subsequent passing over, I just didn’t have it. Besides, my main priority was to finish Intimate Deceptions. But this year, I’m back into it. I need to drop weight. When you compete, these ladies are less than 10% body fat even at the amateur level. So, I’m working hard but need to do a lot more before I’m ready. And actually, (we’ll see if this really happens) I’m thinking of trying my hand at modeling. Hey, us baby boomers need 50+ year old models, so I’ve been considering it.
What is you favorite Holiday and why?
Christmas by far. I have so many beautiful memories of this holiday, with family, the magic. And it’s about love. Hey, between faith, hope and love, the greatest of these is love. And I really believe that.
What is your favorite flowers to get from your husband?
White roses and he knows why! Even though I love color, white roses have a smell to them that’s beautiful. I love it.
Lise before you go I just have to ask what are you working on now?
The third book in the series. It’s really coming along too. And after this, I’ve got soooooo many ideas. You know I work for Cerridwen Press, which is the Ellora’s Cave romance and mainstream arm (not Romantica or Erotica). However, I’ve got some Romantica ideas as well so we’ll see what I work on after I get Tab Wellbourne and Rick Hansen’s story out! (Oh, and there story is sort of a Sabrina story with a twist…he comes from a rich family but left it all after 9-11 with his friend. Sabrina is the family’s body guards daughter, whom he’d always been friends with–best friends–until he alienated her in high school. They were lovers, now he wonders if he can get her back–but first he has to keep her away from the terrorists who are after her to use her for their own perverted purposes.)
