Welcome, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kelly McDonough for taking the time to answer these questions for Coffee Time Romance.
How long did it take you to write Love’s Magic Spell?
I started it when my nine-year-old son was a baby. I got the first three chapters done, but it was too hard to finish with the demands of a newborn. I pulled it out one year and a half ago and blew through it. So, I’d say I wrote it in about a month or two.
Where did you get the inspiration to write Love’s Magic Spell?
It just came to me as I wrote. I start at the beginning and wrote straight through until the end.
Did you have the characters already plotted out or did they come to you as you were writing the book?
Lucienda, the dratted fairy godmother is where it all started. She wouldn’t leave me alone! Finally, I said I have to write this stuff down.
Did you have an difficulties writing this story?
I did have to do a few rewrites, but for the most part, no everything ran smoothly.
Did you have to research much of this story?
I didn’t research any of it. It’s not that kind of story that is research intensive.
Did you enjoy writing Love’s Magic Spell?
I had a blast — especially with Lucienda.
Do you plan to write any further stories with Josh, Lisa and Serene in them?
No, but I thought about bringing Lucienda, the corporate fairy godmother back. We’ll see.
Did you always want to be a writer growing up, if not, how did you become a writer?
Yeah, I guess I always did. I started writing at a really young age and reading romances at eleven. I always loved those best!
How much time do you get to spend with your family when you do not have a deadline?
I get lots of quantity and quality time with my gang. I don’t work on deadline. I just do my thing and then try to sell it.
Do you have certain hours that you write or are they when you can manage to snatch them?
It’s whenever the muse hits. Once I get going though, I try to write every night.
Have you ever had Writers’ Block?
Absolutely! Thanks to my editor for demanding an additional scene to Twist of Faith it went away because I had no choice.
Do you have any upcoming projects?
You bet. I’m working on a story about an angel that is sent down to earth to help a (what
else but) gorgeous guy and his little girl. Only one thing: The Big Guy Upstairs says no romantic attachments. What’s an angel in love to do?
What encouraging words would you give to aspiring authors, if you could?
Write what you love and the rest will follow. Thanks for the interview, I enjoyed it!
I would like to thank you on behalf of Coffee Time Romance for chatting with us and good luck on your upcoming projects.
