Hello, Author Diana Green! Welcome to Coffee Time Romance & More! I’m so excited to get a chance to talk to you about your current paranormal release, Dragon Warrior, book two of the Dragon Clan Series.
Thank you for hosting this interview. I’m always glad for an opportunity to share my work with readers, and I appreciate you taking the time to make it happen.
Start us off by telling our readers about this story.
Though Dragon Warrior is the second book in my Dragon Clan series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone. The story follows dragon shifter Harith, the son of the hero from the first book. It is a tale of star-crossed lovers, secret identities, warring dragon clans, and a hero who must choose between love and duty.
I got a chance to read this book and it is as good as it sounds! What made you choose dragons to write about? What interests you about them?
There is something so magnificent and exciting about dragons. I’ve always loved stories about them, since I was a child. The idea for this trilogy, however, came from a vivid dream I had. In it, a clan of dragon shifters woke from centuries of enchanted sleep. They found themselves in a world that had changed drastically. Their own numbers were few, so they needed to form alliances and mate bonds with the humans. I found the whole culture-clash concept fascinating and started writing immediately.
How exciting! What kind of research did you do for the book?
The only research I did was looking up details about medieval times, to make sure I got things right. I checked facts about use of certain words, fabrics, building materials, etc. Other than that, the story is all imagination. I created a playlist of music to help me get into an epic fantasy mindset, and then I just let my fancy fly.
The hero in the book actually cooks for the heroine. I love that. Talk about romantic! So, tell us, what characteristics make up your dream man?
Though must of us enjoy a strong handsome man, with intense eyes and a deep voice, (consider most romance book heroes), I think there are other characteristics that matter more, in real life. My husband is a great example of the traits I value most. He’s considerate, honest, good-natured, and has a sense of humor. He even cooks a meal once in a while. What more could I ask for?
I can’t think of anything more. Your husband could be the lead in your next romance. He sounds wonderful. Do you two have any special plans for Valentine’s Day?
This Valentine’s Day will be the fourteenth anniversary of my first date with my husband. So I’m sure we’ll do something special. Maybe we’ll have a romantic dinner out and a walk along the harbor.
You two sound so sweet together. He must give you a ton of inspiration for your books. Do you also draw inspiration from within? Your heroine is the type of woman not afraid to say what she wants. I like that about her. Would you say you are like this character in that way?
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve definitely become more willing to speak out when I feel strongly about something. I think it’s important to treat others well, but we should also advocate for our own happiness. Strong woman characters appeal to me as a reader, and I certainly enjoy writing them. The heroine in Dragon Warrior is no exception.
I read from your bio that you suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome. How does that impact your life? What sort of struggles do you face because of this condition?
It has been challenging, especially at first, when I didn’t understand what was happening to me. Because my condition has an auto-immune aspect, I had to give up my work as a teacher, and that was a difficult loss. However, I love writing, and it provides the flexibility to work when I’m able and rest when I need to. I just take each day, as it comes, and remain grateful for the many blessings in my life.
I’m so happy you found writing. What are you working on now? Any projects you would like to share with us?
I recently completed Bronze Fox, the first novel in my new multiple-worlds fantasy romance series, Rifters. It should release in late 2015, and I’m really excited to share it with readers. I think it’s the most fun I’ve ever had writing a book. The characters came brilliantly to life for me, and the setting is so rich and multi-layered. I can’t wait to write book #2.
Right now, I’m working on Dragon Soul, the epic finale to my Dragon Clan trilogy. The writing is going a little slower than I would like, because of my health issues, but I plan to have the novel completed by late winter/early spring 2015.
