As long as he does not have to hang out in the locker room, Rupert Smythe is pretty sure he will have no trouble managing a professional hockey team. Despite having never played, Rupert is quite confident in his business acumen and organizational skills.
Nothing is more important to Callum Morrison than family, which is why he is now spending his off season in Canada neck deep in plans to build a new hockey stadium. The only problem seems to be the team’s manager.
Loud, brutish, and just down-right obnoxious is Rupert’s first, second, and third impression of Callum. It is not until weeks into their forced work relationship that Rupert begins to see a whole different side. Callum has spent his whole life denying the most basic part of himself, but being around Rupert is breaking all his barriers. Rupert, his little brother Oliver, and their newest addition, Christian, make Callum’s heart ache, because he knows that in a very short time he will have to go back to his “real” life.
The joy that little Oliver brings to the lives of not just Rupert and Callum, but an entire crew of bad-ass hockey jocks, is a thing of beauty. Rupert and Callum try their best to make Oliver feel safe and loved, so it comes as no surprise when the same happens to them. Callum just crushes you with his huge heart and unconditional love, which makes it even harder when he regularly discredits himself. Rupert is the unexpected rock, surprising even himself, and I love how he lets Callum know how much he deserves to be happy.
