Yoga has been around for many years, even though it is often hard to depict when it began; it just predates any written history. Yoga comes from the ancient word, Sanskrit, meaning ‘unity,’ or ‘join.’ Yoga is a good way to help relieve stress but it is also a good resource in using discipline. Throughout all the many books that have been written on yoga, there is another yoga familiarizing itself with everyone known as Holy Yoga.
This different yoga uses physical worship of the Lord through prayer, by breathing work and movement to all that believe in Jesus Christ, and follow him, no matter what the denomination. There are eight steps to this new classical style yoga, and even though it may not be brand new, it lends a do-it-yourself medicine for stress management and good health. With studies pointing to yoga helping to maintain normal aging, back pain, arthritis, stress, asthma, high blood pressure, and even pain management, this book shows how mental and emotional problems can benefit from these exercises.
The mission of the Holy Yoga brings in a way to introduce people to a collective form of exercise not only of the body, but the mind, while connecting one spiritually to His Holy Spirit. By reading through the pages of the informative book one learns that Holy Yoga is also a way to reach out in their individual churches and communities. Within the learning process, one is centered among a people, not only that are unique but their worship is powerful for the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The classes are even motivated around contemporary Christian music that further enhances the exercises.
I must say I was impressed with the lay out of the book. Holy Yoga shows dedication to a life with God and worshipping Him in a unique way. I found it interesting with the different postures for standing, sitting, bending, reclining and relaxing. With the proper balance act of the exercises and worship, the reader feels uplifted in many ways. Brooke Boon, the founder of Holy Yoga, has definitely done her homework with this educational, motivating read. It is a very informative and interesting book, especially for yoga enthusiasts and those wishing to give it a try. She stresses that even though Yoga is not any form of religion it can be used to learn better patience, strength and a much deeper worship with one’s Maker. This is a great supplement to anyone in their daily life.
