Dance student, Carina Guarda, attends a performing arts college in London. Her apartment and college are subsidised by her hardworking parents, owners of a Deli in Hampstead, London. Determined to realise her dreams, for herself and her parents, Carina takes part in an audition where she gives an impressive performance, winning her a place to dance and sing in an all girl band in New York, USA. Aged 23, Carina has never spent time away from home in a foreign country alone, and she worries that New York is miles away and fears she may miss her family and friends. However, following her dreams, Carina signs a contract with Danny La Franca, her new agent and manager of Red Management who accompanies her to New York.
Christian Fernandez is based in New York and a powerfully, influential partner of Red Management. Upon their introductory meeting, Carina is instantly attracted to Christian. After a few business encounters, Christian inevitably dates Carina. Carina inwardly lusts for Christian but manages to make a good impression by not sleeping with him on their first date. Smitten by the pretty Carina, Christian is determined to see more of her.
Carina is kept busy working hard at her new dancing career, attending auditions. Red Management has promised her a solo career, she forges a new relationship with an American girl, Lucille and, fits in having fun with three girlfriends over from the UK. With tight schedules, Carina and Christian keep in contact by text messaging until they go out on an amorously unforgettable date.
This novel is enchanting and inspiring. Mirella Castellano has a strong character in Carina who, through admirable control, self belief and tenacity, journeys through the good and the bad times, never taking her eyes off her dreams. Although the main character was laced with vulnerabilities associated with making tough life decisions, living in a strange and foreign city, surrounded by strangers and taking risks, she allowed the flow of optimism in self control, strength in character, belief and hope apparent throughout her challenging experiences. I eagerly followed events taking place in the lives of a few of the key characters keen to learn their individual outcomes. The conclusion to the story wrapped things up very nicely, proving that there is always an alternative to an alternative. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.
