Jack Mcteague is all boy, and tells himself that every month. You see Jack is what becomes of Jill for those four days every month. He is a living breathing male who wants nothing more than to live, be normal, and have a life outside of the four walled bedroom he is reduced to living in.
Jill cannot keep her secret forever, and as things start to slip out of her control, or should we say Jack starts to really assert himself and his wishes upon Jill, her life starts to unravel. When Jack makes a break for it one month to visit her friend that he likes is the beginning of the end of Jill’s well constructed lie. When everything starts to unravel will Jill have the strength to come clean to her best friend and the guy she likes, or will she finally loose all control and herself in the process?
Cycler is a coming of age story with a twist. The author has come up with a very creative way to deal with young people’s issues of sexual orientation, coming of age, and how they deal with the problems that they have to face. The book for the most part is okay. It is directly written for young adults, and is why I had a hard time getting into it. I think that if you are the target audience for this book it will go over smashingly, but for me it was just okay.
