Could you please tell us about your newest release?
I’m excited to announce that Source Point Press will be reissuing the original six issue series of my graphic novel, Boston Metaphysical Society. The first issue will be available in May in the Diamond Previews World Catalogue which means it will be available to order from your local comic book store. (Find Your Local Store Here.)
My other latest releases are Boston Metaphysical Society: The Spirit of Rebellion, which is a graphic novel and a standalone of the original series. I’m busy sending out the book to Kickstarter backers, but it should be up on Amazon to buy as a paperback and digitally on Drivethrucomics in May. The other is Boston Metaphysical Society: A Storm of Secrets, a novel and a prequel to the original series.
For those who are not familiar with the series, the original story is about an ex-Pinkerton detective, a spirit photographer, and a genius scientist who battle supernatural forces in late 1800s Boston.
Do you write in any other genre besides Steampunk?
Fantasy and science fiction. I also do reviews for Fanbase Press. (comics and novels)
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Write as much as you can and as often as you can. Take good courses on creative writing and learn how to accept constructive criticism.
Have you won any awards or accolades for your books?
Yes, the original graphic novel was nominated for Best Graphic Novel at the Geekie Awards. The first novel in the series, Boston Metaphysical Society: A Storm of Secrets, was recently awarded a Silver Medal in the Science Fiction/Fantasy category as well as The Write Companion Award for Best Overall TOP PICK – Adult, Children’s and Young Adult categories in the Feathered Quill Book Awards.
How many books have you completed?
The six issue mini-series, two shorter graphic novels, an anthology of short stories and novellas, and a novel. I also have done short stories (sequential art and prose) for several anthologies.
How do you develop your characters?
I write extensive biographies for the major characters usually going back to their grandparents and possibly farther. For minor characters, I do enough to understand why they do what they do. It usually requires research though I have brought in some of my own family history though I won’t giveaway who.
What format are your books available?
The books are available in both print and ebook or a digital format.
How do you choose names for your characters?
Since the universe I created is set in the late 1800s or earlier, I research names that were popular for the era. I then look up the etymology of the name I’m interested in to see if its meaning resonates with the character I created.
Who is your biggest supporter?
That’s easy—my husband. He’s been behind this project 110%.
What is your favorite vacation destination?
The Hawaiian Islands. I love the air and the calm of the sea.

Short Bio:
The writer/creator of the Boston Metaphysical Society graphic novel series, companion novel, and short stories, Madeleine has also run a number of successful crowding campaigns and published the book, Kickstarter for the Independent Creator. She is also the winner of the Sloan Fellowship for screenwriting, and the Gold Aurora and Bronze Telly for a PSA produced by Women In Film as well as having won numerous awards while completing the UCLA MFA Program in Screenwriting. Source Point Press is set to publish the first six issues and the trade paperback of Boston Metaphysical Society original graphic novel in 2019/2020.
Other comic projects include the short story, The Scout which is part of The 4th Monkey anthology, The Sanctuary (The Edgar Allan Poe Chronicles anthology), The Marriage Counselor ( The Cthulhu is Hard to Spell anthology) and the upcoming The Airship Pirate which will be part of The Rum Row anthology.
Formerly a nationally ranked epee fencer, she has competed nationally and internationally. Madeleine is an avid reader of comics, steampunk, science fiction, fantasy, and historical military fiction.
