David Price is an accountant in a large firm. He is the only survivor of a horrific car crash and has not quite recovered. He has taken a less stressful job for a temporary firm. He is single and has no close family, so the travel involved will not be a problem.
The Rep, who also calls herself Darla Kelsey, is an odd red-headed woman who seems to be stalking David. No one knows who she is, where she comes from, or what she wants with David.
A terrible car crash results in the death of four people. David Price is the only survivor, though his injuries were quite serious and his recovery long. The layoff of the accounting department in his company is a blessing in disguise, allowing him to take a less stressful job. Or so he thinks. Death seems to be stalking him as he travels the Northwest for his new job. A woman called The Rep is also stalking him, and he is determined to find out whom and what she is, before someone else dies and he takes the blame.
This is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that really made me think. The author builds the story slowly and cleverly, building the suspense and anticipation. David is not really a sympathetic character at first, but as I got to know him, I cared more and more about what happened to him and was on pins and needles as to whether he would be accused of all the deaths that followed him in his travels. The author does a great job of writing a gripping story filled with both mundane and interesting characters and a villain unlike any other.
