Trey Wells gets the shock of his life when his father is murdered. When his betrothed, Allethaire, hops on a horse and takes off after the funeral, he must go in search of her.
Zurina Vasco is Basque, a daughter of a sheepherder. When her sheep are killed and her father shot, she blames Trey since the horses the men were riding bore the Wells brand.
Trey is beside himself after his father’s death. He is determined to find the killer. Then his fiancé, Allethaire Gibson, rides off, trying to get far away from him. She does not want to marry the stubborn man because her father wishes to increase his business dealings. Allethaire stumbles upon Zurina and her father, and they are attacked by men bearing guns. After the raid is over, Trey shows up, but Zurina holds him responsible for the destruction. When he learns Allethaire was kidnapped, he waits to hear from the captors. Trey tries to work with Zurina, even though she is a sheepherder’s daughter and he a cattleman. She despises him, but he has an effect on her, the same way she has one on him. The two do not mix, yet something pulls them together no matter how hard they fight the attraction.
I was completely drawn to The Cattleman’s Unsuitable Wife and able to follow the characters and their revolving lives. I thought the plot with the sheepherders and the cattlemen was indeed written well. It was believable with the way the sheepherders were robbed of much in their lives by those who did not want sheep grazing near any cattle. Zurina and Trey connect beautifully together. They both are endearing players who made the read more captivating. Pam Crooks spins a delightful and engaging read hard to put down. I felt as if I were right in the middle of the action, and everything was spinning around me. She certainly generated a tale that this reader thoroughly enjoyed.
