Preston Armstrong’s position is not an easy one. He is the CEO of a family owned business and not a member of the family. There is understandable resentment, especially when he makes changes, but he has been in difficult spots before.
The matriarch of the McNair jewelry empire is dying and is determined to make sure her family and her business are secure when she goes. She hires a capable man to run the business and expects her granddaughter to remain its heart. Amie naturally resents the interloper but will work with him if only to please the most important woman in her life.
Ms. Mann writes a fine romance. The characters have instant attraction, but significant conflicts keep them apart. Both have secrets in their pasts and have difficulty trusting, making their eventual fall all the more satisfying. The plot is excellently written, and the characters are so realistic they could literally walk off the page.
