Historical Romance
Rating: 4 Cups
With her winnings at the card tables, Lady Margaret Sawford earns a decent enough living to help the less fortunate women of London. The scandalous reputation she wears so well may mean a life of spinsterhood, but it is a small price to pay for the freedom to do as she pleases.
As a duke, Latham takes his responsibility to the people very seriously. Having fun or doing something spontaneous is such a foreign concept he would not even know how to begin.
London’s rougher areas are full of women who need help, which puts Margaret in a precarious position. When the Duke of Latham steps in to help, Margaret is too shocked, and thankful, to turn him down. Their adventure together surprises them both, although it is clear to Margaret that Lash needs much more of this in his life. The attraction that blooms between them could be considered just one more, even as they both fear how quickly those feeling are growing out of control.
For a man with zero joy in his life, it is no wonder Lash is so taken with Margaret. Her “sparkle”, as he calls it, is spot on when describing her personality. I also love how she uses every stumbling block as a jumping off point to help others. Lash is so in awe of Margaret, and absolutely clueless when expressing himself, it makes him even more adorable.
