Carlie Trakker is the daughter of a supervising ranger at Glacier National Park. At sixteen she is an amateur sleuth and her last name fits her well as a tracker. Carlie knows hardship and pain, she broke her leg two years before following a poacher.
Andy Trakker is a National Park ranger and is always trying to keep his daughter Carlie safe. He is heading up an investigation on some local poaching of foxes in the park.
While out taking photos Carlie comes across a dead, skinned fox. Giving the pictures to her dad leaves her with even more questions about the poachers. She is now being kept away while her dad is investigating but that will not stop Carlie and her quest. Overdoing it, Carlie gets her bad leg put in a cast and that just makes her more determined. Not even being kidnapped keeps her down long.
Carlie is your quintessential teen who must know everything that goes on around her. Picture Nancy Drew meets Flipper or Gentle Ben and you have an idea of a young detective sleuth in the wild. This is a fun and fast paced tale with lots of clues and suspects to keep you guessing. I would love to see a sequel made, it is very well written and entertaining. This is your “going to get the bad guy, no matter what happens to her“ type of adventure. Carlie is not your girly girl, she is one that will be injured and tough it out to do what she must and get it done. I will love to see if there will be a series or sequel based on this story. This is a teen who has guts and spunk and will not give up if she can possibly solve the investigation.
