QUESTION: What inspired you to write your debut novel?
Ruth A. Casie said:
I’ve always had stories in my head, just ask my older sister. I clearly remember dressed in my cowgirl shirt, boots and hat waiting at the back door for her to come home from high school. I made her put on what would pass (in my estimation) as a cowgirl shirt. We both went into the backyard and she watched as I rode my tricycle/steed pretending to conquer the wild west.
But writing stories? I never thought about actually writing them down. The inspiration came years later when a friend toyed with the idea of writing a romance novel. I had been doing a great deal of international travel for work and took stacks of romance books (this was before ebooks) with me. I enjoyed historicals and their happily-ever-after endings. I asked if she wanted a beta reader. After meeting and discussing plots, heroes and heroines we decided to each write a book and sell them as a set.
We had a great time planning, plotting and penning. However, she was at a different place in her life, visiting colleges with her daughter and training for the New York Marathon. I on the other hand, started writing a story and the world opened up for me. I didn’t want to stop, so with her encouragement, I went on and finished my book.
We’re still good friends. She never finished her book. I wrote Knight of Runes and created the Druid Knight series with the release of Knight of Rapture. I think there may be a Knight of Redemption in the future.
I wrote another historic fantasy series, The Stelton Legacy and even ventured into contemporary suspense.
I love the create process of writing. I don’t think I can stop and really… I don’t want to.
