April 2018: Writing Software
~ Valerie Ullmer ~
CTR asked:
Which writing software do you use (something other than MS Word, like Jutoh and Scrivener)? What’s your favorite feature(s), and why?
Valerie Ullmer said:
I love Scrivener. I’ve been using it for just over a year and in that time, they’ve come out with an entirely new version of the software. I originally spent $45 for lifetime use of the software on up to five machines. Then a couple months ago, I upgraded for only $25 because I had purchased the software previously, and let me tell you, it is worth every penny.
First, there is the ease of the layout. You have a binder bar which contains your manuscript, any outline or scene notes, research, settings, etc. You can lay it out in any form you need, it’s fully customizable to your liking. There are also countless tutorials on YouTube and at their website, https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener/overview. So if you get stuck or have a problem, you can learn from others or contact their customer service, who works quickly to solve any problems you might be having.
You can add pictures, notes, and color code everything for ease of use when trying to find what you need. There is a free-flowing cork board, so if you’re having difficulty with your scenes, you can rearrange them and see how they fit into your story. You can do this all without messing with your manuscript.
Also, if you’re a meticulous outliner like me, you determine how your scenes fit in the story structure as you write your outline. I need to know which scene the hook is, inciting event, 1st plot point, 1st pinch point, and so on. This also helps you determine how long your story will be and, in the end, you have a solid story. Scrivener makes it easy to tweak your story in any way you need, color code your scenes, make notes, and add character pictures.
Also, I find Scrivener the simplest way to compile a manuscript for Kindle or any other ebook. They also work on print books. You add your cover right to the software, and with a few clicks, your book is ready to upload to any site. There isn’t software out there that is as easy to use, adapt to, or benefits your writing more than Scrivener.

Jade (A Dark Assassins Novel, Book 4)
[ Paranormal Erotic Romance ]
Jade never wanted a mate. She loved being an assassin and she had a family in her fellow assassins, their mates, and little Silas. She truly had everything she needed. But when Ghost assigned her to track the same immortals who tried to kill Xander’s family, she couldn’t refuse.
But the complication arises when Ghost requests she partner with Noah, a human and ex-special forces soldier. Jade has never worked with a human before, much less one that hated her from the moment he laid eyes on her. But she was a professional and if she could play a part in destroying the immortals who threatened her family, she could accept the human. If only she knew how to fight her attraction to him.
All Noah Hale wanted was to kill the immortals who lured his best friend and fellow ex-Navy SEAL to his death. He had no desire to be teamed with a beautiful tracker who mesmerized him the moment she turned her emerald eyes his way. But in order to stop other soldiers from pursuing the same fate, he needed to swallow his pride and work with a group of immortals he didn’t trust.
As Jade and Noah track the group of shifters through the mountains of Colorado, the danger lurking around every corner threatens everything they both hold close. Will they be able to find a way through, together?
