September 2019: Office Space
~ Tory Richards ~
CTR asked:
Describe the space where you write. Is it an office? A coffee shop? Messy desk?
Tory Richards said:
My office space is my lazy-boy recliner. No kidding. I do all of my writing from my chair, my desk is a padded lap desk which my laptop sits on. The lap desk keeps my lap from getting hot; because we all know when you’re a menopausal woman you’ll do anything to keep from getting hot. Course at my age, I think I’m beyond menopausal. I think my hot flashes have more to do with the explicit sex scenes I write (medication is more likely the culprit).
I have a nice big window to the right of me which gives plenty of light, and keeps my office staff (my four cats) happy and content. My editor has her own office, as she works from home, too, only I think her office is called a couch.
Next to my chair is a table filled with all of my necessary office equipment. I’m pretty sure you’d find most of these items in any regular office, right girls? Lamp, for when I write in the evening. My mini-google in case I have a question and don’t feel like researching it on the internet. Eye solution to help relieve my tired eyes. My daily pills to give me the false impression that I’m healthy, and sane. My phone, of course, that is when my grandson hasn’t claimed it. There’s also computer cleaner, dental floss, resource books (2), a razor for when I have writers block and have nothing else to do but shave my legs, tissue (really a roll of toilet paper), and hand lotion.
Let’s not forget about my four remotes. One for my fan (for when the AC and ceiling fan aren’t enough to keep me cool), one for my robotic vacuum cleaner, and two for the TV. Why two? One is to turn it on and off. The other one controls the channels and volume. Why or why can’t they invent one that does everything? Maybe that’s your finger?
What if I need a break or decide to take a nap while I’m in my office? Got it covered! I don’t even have to leave my office. I have a nice soft blanket draped over the back of my chair, and one of those soft neck pillow thingies within reach.
Finally, I can’t forget the most important item of all, my coffee cup, or tea depending on what time of day it is. I basically have everything I need right at my finger-tips.
