I must say, and I’m sure I’ll get some comments for this (which I love), but what is the big deal about……yes, I’m going to say it………hockey? I mean, I get that it’s a sport. I get that these overgrown men hit a puck around the ice and slap each other on the butt, and sweat and spit and blow snot out of their nose while on camera (which is always a favorite). I get all that. What I don’t get is what makes them billionaires.
They aren’t brain surgeons. They don’t save lives. Hell, they don’t even seem to wash their hair most of the time. Why do we pay these people to skate around – when there are starving people in the world? What justice is there in that?
People gamble away their money on these games. They kill each other when their teams lose – and our children witness this violence on a daily basis. It’s not just in hockey – I read after the Superbowl that two men got into a squabble over the win/loss shocker (whatever) and one of them ended up dead. THIS IS A GAME PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not going to change your life, this is not going to make you a better person…..half the players retire when they’re 30 or younger and never do anything else again – because they’ve made their money. Is this fair? Have they really worked hard enough in their short term on the ice/field to deserve this honor?
Come on, give me your comments. I’ll stand in the net with my lovely goalie costume on and wait. I’m ready.

17 years agoI enjoy hockey and baseball and I love going to games and rooting for a team. However, like you I’ve never understood the rabid fan. Like you said, it’s a game. It’s fun to get in the spirit of the game but afterwards people have to go back to real life.

17 years ago AUTHORExactly, Georgie! I think our children and our children’s children will appreciate it more if we all just calm down and remember that it’s a game and there for enjoyment purposes only! Thanks for your comment!
