Welcome to the debut post of The Writer’s Room. Step inside, find yourself a comfy seat, and even grab cup of coffee or tea.
What is The Writer’s Room?
It’s a place where on the first Friday of each month you can come hang out and learn something new about writing. It could be how to put together an eye catching synopsis or how to put more emotion into your story.
This will be your room, your place to hang out and ask questions or to make suggestions for future posts. Most of all, I hope it will be a place where you’ll grow as a writer, hone your skill, and one day post the exciting news that your story’s going to be published.
They say each journey begins with the first important step and that’s also true about writing a story. So for this first post it’s all about getting started.
From now on you’re going to call yourself a writer. However, to give yourself that title you have to do one thing and that’s write.
Starting today, I want you to get into the habit of writing every day. No excuses, no saying I don’t have time.
Print out a sign that says My Writing Time and hang it someplace you can see it.
Write it on your calendar like you would any other appointment.
Don’t worry if you only have ten minutes or one day you find yourself writing something that isn’t part of your novel. The bottom line is write so you get into the habit of writing on a daily basis. They say it takes 30 days for habit to form so by the time I’m writing the next post here your writing habit should be well underway.
Please let me know if there’s a topic you’d like to see me tackle here in The Writer’s Room. Do you have a writing question you’d like me to address? I’d like to devote some posts to a question and answer style article so ask away…there’s no such thing as a silly one!
Okay that’s it for this debut post. Happy writing.
