Remember when we were all good boys and girls and the idea of playing doctor never crossed our minds”¦.who the hell am I kidding right? Not play doctor under the bleachers after a football game? Yeah right!
What we didn’t know then”¦children really, playing games we had no clue about. But now we’re grown up and we do have a clue. At least we think we do anyway. Playing doctor takes on a whole new meaning. A meaning past show me yours and I’ll show you mine. And the world of romance is no longer afraid to take on those taboo games and present them as part of a healthy sex life. Good to see and good to read! It’s about time we break free from the tyrannical puritan idea that our fun parts were given to us for one reason and one reason only, to pro-create”¦blah! I may be a good Catholic, but I’m afraid I agree with some of my other brethren from other religions that my va-jay-jay was meant for more than just to conceive and subsequently give birth.
So, let’s further explore this whole role playing idea. I myself see nothing wrong with playing this little game. Playing dress up is fun. I firmly believe that digging in Mommy’s closet as a tot was a precursor and preliminary training ground for a more mature version. I mean come on”¦remember teetering around in way too high heels with a hat slapped on your head and an oversized gown dragging the floor””then there was that enormous ring of the brightest red lipstick etched around your mouth. Yep, definitely a training ground. So, I think we can all agree that the dressing up part is a blast, but what about the actual act of stepping into a role?
Now, most people would probably associate the term role with the D/s lifestyle, meaning that they recognize when it’s time to play both partners assume their “role” in that game, be it tops or bottoms. But what if that role goes past simply stepping into your preferred place in that life? What if it means, say, actually taking on another persona altogether. Say a witch at the Salem trials? Or one of the devil’s consorts? Your paramour to his Lord? Or, in some cases, rent boy to her Baroness? Or call girl to her Ladyship? Whatever the case”¦it’s acting out a fantasy. How far would you be willing to go to fulfill this fantasy? Dressing the role, speaking the role, living the role”¦going so far as to allowing a guided fantasy in a public place like some of my characters do in True Identity? Agreeing to and putting it in a written negotiation that you have no problem with being mindfucked? Would you be so willing to fulfill your own fantasies that you’d actual lie from the get go in the just meeting and getting to know you phase of a hook-up? Would you lead someone on just to test drive them complete with a false name, then get rid of them as part of the experiment?
Julie does. Who’s Julie? She’s my heroine from book 3 of the Identity series due out late this year. As those of you that follow me and have seen me around here a few times know, the Identity series isn’t a series wrapped around a few characters that know each other. The only connection these three books have is the thread of a common theme. Someone in the book has a serious identity issue. In book one, Identity Crisis, Chad Dearborn our hero is the one with the issues. He’s not entirely comfortable with his identity and has to come up with some creative compromises to be able to satisfy his wife and submissive, Tori. In book two, True Identity, our heroine, Jill, has the problems””she’s had a terrible first go out with the lifestyle and is afraid of delving into it again until she meets Steph, a Dom du jour. Now here I am writing book three, Assumed Identity, and my latest heroine, Julie has a crisis all her own. One she feels the only answer to is to experiment around and dabble in as many things as possible, but without anyone finding out who she really is. Now, this is all going along splendidly until she meets Mason””a much older and much wiser person that’s lived the lifestyle for some thirty years or so. He’s no fool and realizes a much younger Julie (Hayden) fulfills him. But who’s he really in love with”¦Julie or Hayden? How does he tell the difference and when will Julie come clean? And what about trust? Has she gone too far in her quest for her identity?
How far would you go? Leave me some comments”¦tell me what your wildest role playing game would be if you could live the fantasy. I sort of like to play the meet a stranger in a bar game with my hubs. The most creative comment left will win a PDF copy of Identity Crisis and True Identity.
Happy Reading!
