My husband and I just spent a week in the Caribbean – we hopped on the Carnival Freedom Ship and sailed off for 8 glorious days. We were pampered 24/7, had more food than we could eat in three lifetimes, and just relaxed and enjoyed every moment. For those of you who have never been on a cruise ship – you NEED to get on one. They do everything for you except wipe your backside – and they'd probably do that for a tip!! I swear – you get up in the morning and there are breakfast buffets all over (or you can sit down in a main dining area), and you have a full schedule for the day. At any given time you can head back to that buffet until lunchtime – when it switches over to the lunch menu. They would have 'tasts of the nations' and sometimes it was Mexican, Italian, American, Caribbean – you name it!! I was hoping for Chinese because that's my favorite, but they never had it. They did have sushi, though – which I'm not a fan, but a lot of people were excited to see that!
You came back from breakfast to find your bed neatly made, new towels for the beach and shower, and everything just spic and span. there were shows every night; musical, comedies, etc – the only downside was having smoking inside the ship. I quit a year ago and it was disgusting smelling that as you walked toward the back of the ship to the comedy clubs. And the disco club was smoking from 10pm on – and during the day it's where the kids went! I couldn't believe that!
The ports were awesome, the Islands beautiful and the excursions memorable. I loved every minute. We came back to our cabin after supper to find our beds turned down, a towel animal on the bed, with chocolates and a schedule for the next day…….ahhh…….that was the life.
And then I came home. We didn't get home until 4am which was tiring enough, but instead of finding a towel animal on my bed this time I found cat shit. Yeah……welcome home. My son forgot to let him out one day (no litter box) and the cat decided he was mad enough to go not just on my bed but all over the clothes my husband left on the floor……..nice.
Coming back to work on Tuesday was worse. You don't realize what you're dealing with on a daily basis until you're away from it. You don't really hear the gossip, the hateful comments people make, how really little you feel in your job….until you are only listening to the sounds of the ocean. I really haven't slept since I came home because I so want to be back on the ship where I'm pampered and taken care of – and not have to listen to people complain about how terrible their life is, how awful other people are at doing (or not doing) their job……it's just not my idea of a great time.
So until the next trip I have a picture of the beautiful beach from Antigua on my desktop, am wearing my Carnival hat, and in my mind I am still on the ship enjoying life.
Bon Voyage to you all!! Be sure to send me a postcard from nowhere!!

13 years agoLOL, I love this post. I love vacations but they just don’t last long enough. Animals have a humorous way of showing their feelings and hubby and I have experienced a similar situation like you did with your cat (that part had me laughing so hard I have tears in my eyes), only our cat shit on the table on my table decorations, I had to throw them all away. Then to top that I went to wash my hands and the cat had shit in the sink. So I completely can relate to your experience. Glad you had a wonderful vacation, I would love to live with room service, maid service, and cook service and just hassle free, worries free but money only buys a small amount at a time but like you, we can dream and let our fantasies take us away until we can put it in reality again on our next vacation.
