Hello! Today I’m sharing an excerpt of my latest release – hot scifi romance short Quickshot. After a tense and heated meeting, my heroine has taken an interloper aboard her ship as a paying passenger. But she has more than money on her mind…
Sal released control to the computer, then turned to her companion. “What’s your name?”
The guy started, as if that was the last question he’d expected. “Devin Kyle. And yours?”
“Call me Sal.”
“Sal? That’s it?”
“That’s all you need.”
Devin frowned. “I’ll need more than that to transfer over credit.”
“You’re not able to just pass digital credit?”
He hesitated. “I guess. If you’d rather do it that way.”
“I would.” Like hell she’d gift anyone her full name if she could avoid it. No one ever got it right when she did.
“So now what?”
Sal grinned, and saw him gulp. “Come on.” She grabbed his arm and tugged him after her.
“Where are we going?”
She didn’t answer as she led him to her cabin. Once there, she pushed him up against the wall and kissed him hard. He hesitated at first, then returned the kiss, though not with the enthusiasm she’d been hoping for.
“What’s the matter?” she breathed. “You didn’t hold back in the bar.”
“Yeah, but only after I offered to pay anything you wanted for a little help. And you had shoved a gun in my throat for touching you before that. I thought we’d already discussed payment.”
“You’re going to renege on the rest of the deal?” She didn’t look at him but heard the sharp intake of breath as she slowly traced the grip of one of her guns with a teasing fingertip.
“I didn’t realize the deal wasn’t finalized.”
“I thought this might be a good way to seal it.” She looked up at him through her lashes, a ploy that had always melted reluctance from her partners. Even Ehi had fallen for it.
Devin breathed out like he’d been holding it in. “There’s something I should tell you first.”
Blurb:
Sal, a legal carrier (just about) of whatever comes her way, puts her trust in just two things: her guns.
Keeping out from under Imperium eyes—especially those belonging to a certain Ehi Wahu—while making a living, and trying to keep a lover who can tolerate her twitchy trigger fingers, are the extent of her ambitions.
Then a kiss from a passing stranger, and a promise of the biggest score in a long time, tempt her. Devin fulfils more than one need, but he comes with more trouble than one woman can handle. And this time it’ll take more than her guns to save her. She’ll have to trust a man again.
WARNING: for over 18s only. Adult content, including sex, bad language, and implied violence. Released 31st March, only $0.99.
