Promise Me Series

Hi! My name is Tara Fox Hall, and I’ll be posting today here on CoffeeTime Romance!  Here’s post #2, lol.

webofmemory_final-copy

I write a lot of genres besides romance, but today I’m focusing on my Promise Me Series, specifically Book #15, Web of Memory.  This is the second to last book in the series. Check out Show it off Saturday this weekend here at CoffeeTime Romance for more on the final series book (#16), Forever!

I’ve really enjoyed writing this paranormal series and bringing the books to readers over the last ten years. I didn’t think when I started writing these back in 2006 that I’d have so many sequels, or that I’d ever get to share them all with the world. So it’s appropriate to say thank you to everyone that helped me to this moment. <big hug>

And, onto the book! Here’s the blurb, excerpt, and buy links  for Web of Memory:

Blurb: Sarelle’s return to her loved ones brings a brief measure of solace, even as she mourns all that changed in her absence. Rene’s presence as Devlin’s new paramour and Sar’s pact with the demon Shaker add as much tension as comfort, as the delicate balance of Sar’s life threatens to collapse under the weight of all she endured as the vampire Michael’s prisoner. Determined to reclaim her life, Sar fights back, inadvertently sparking her long-lost lover’s Danial’s memory as an unseen ancient enemy circles ever closer.

Excerpt:

“What are you doing?” Danial said curiously from the doorway. “Who are you talking to?”
“Saving a spider,” I explained, blushing. “He’s in there most times because we don’t use this tub too often anymore, and he’ll die if I don’t scoop him out—”
Danial had become still as a statue, watching me. “Why did you save him, Lady?” he said raggedly. “Why?”
It suddenly hit me: he remembered that other night with me years ago.The spider in my old house whom I’d saved in front of him, the night Danial had asked me to give him my Oath. Oh shit. “Because I can’t watch him struggle to live without helping him,” I said, tense as a coiled spring.
“Why not just move him somewhere else?” Danial whispered. “He would be safe, if you moved him.”
His old but still familiar words made my heart race. I took a deep breath and tried to slow it. “He might not be able to survive where I put him. Outside right now, it’s too cold. Winter is coming—”
“Why do you bother to save him, knowing you will only have to save him again?” Every one of his words echoing down from years past was raw agony, tortured.
I took another deep breath and faced him. “Because I can’t let him die, not when I know I can save him.”
Danial came to me hesitantly. He almost reached out for me, but then he drew his hand back. I held his gaze with my eyes, but didn’t reach out for him.
My reason said to break the moment, to stop what was happening with a few cruel words. But I felt the same for him as I had that long ago night I’d first saved him. I just couldn’t leave him in his grief, because it was so much easier for me to let him think I was dead, not if there was a chance that he would remember me. He’d done so much for me, to save me, to make me happy, and he was the father of my firstborn child, and my Oathed One. Even if he didn’t remember that any more, I did.
I owed him this. And God damn it, whatever else I was, I always paid my debts.
“I remember a night, years ago,” Danial said hoarsely, his expression fearful and also hopeful. “A night I never told anyone about, not Theo, not my brother, no one. I remember another place, another woman, and another bathtub that held a drowning spider.”
I thought frantically. What did I say to him that night? I needed the exact words. What were they?
“She saved its life in front of my eyes, even though she was embarrassed after. I told her that she wasn’t crazy for saving a spider. I compared it to her saving me, when an attacker was trying to kill me.”
Danial had said that and more, the night he’d asked me for my Oath.
“She said to me a single phrase,” he whispered. “But it was enough for me to know that she was the one I wanted. I asked her to promise herself to me that very night.”
There was so much hope in his voice, so much pain and fear that he might be wrong, that I wouldn’t know the words, or even what he was talking about. Reliving the memory, my words of that long ago night suddenly came back to me. “I told you I couldn’t let you die, not if I could save you.”
Tears spilled out of Danial’s eyes as he reached for me, embracing me as if he would never let me go. “You are her,” he rasped, shaking with joy and realized hope. “You are my Sar. God, it’s true.”
“Yes, I’m her,” I whispered.
He sank to his knees, still holding me, and I eased down to the floor with him, unwilling to let him go. For a long time Danial just cried in my arms, his tears soaking the front and shoulders of my bathrobe. I stroked his hair and told him not to cry, that he was loved and I was here, in his arms.
He pulled back from me finally, and looked at me for several moments, studying my face. “Why do you not look as I remember you?” he said softly. “Your hair, your face, even your voice, it’s completely different.”
“It was the injury you took at the hands of Ulysses,” I said carefully. “My choker with your symbol fell off. Dev and I got to you as soon as we could. You almost died, your heart was stopped for minutes, and it affected some of your memories.”
“Why could it not be of my youth!” he said angrily. “Or of all the years I spent alone! I have spent almost a year without you! Months thinking you were dead, and grieving for you!”
I felt myself wanting to give in to the moment. Hadn’t this been what I’d hoped for? And now it’s finally happening.  “I’m not dead, Danial,” I said, taking his face in my hands. “I’m here with you.”
Danial leaned forward, and kissed me. I slid my fingers into his hair, caressing him as I kissed him back. He picked me up in his arms, still kissing me, and carried me in, to Lash’s bed. He left me for a moment to shut and lock the door, and then he was back, easing down beside me. Danial kissed me gently at first, but soon he was crushing my body against his, his hands sliding over my feverishly hot body, caressing and squeezing me through my robe as he kissed me. I pushed him back gently, and pulled off my bathrobe, revealing my nakedness. Danial looked at me darkly, and then he was pulling off his shirt and jeans, tearing the black cloth in his haste.

Designing the Perfect Romance Cast Register by April 29th and save $5, use code ROMANCECASTKNIGHT2024 at checkout! In this brand-new month-long online class, New York Times bestselling author Angela Knight discusses the importance of creating the perfect cast for the kind of romance you’re trying to write.

A memorable romance cast is more than the sum of its parts. To create an effective book, all the characters – protagonists, antagonists, and minor characters – must work together as a unit. And each must fit the kind of book you’re trying to write. Leatherface of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre does not belong in a Rom Com. Nor do you want minor characters to steal the book.

But how do you create a good cast for this particular book and the audience you’re aiming for?

Angela discusses how to design your heroic couple for each other, along with the minor characters and sidekicks who help make the protagonists three-dimensional.

She’ll also talk antagonists and their henchmen, and how to use them to create tension and excitement.

Next, she’ll explore dialogue, humor and arguments as a way to develop character and conflict.

The result will be a firm foundation for your book so you won’t be flailing in the dark, trying to figure out why the heck your book isn’t working.

Lessons in this month-long online class will be posted on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students may email scenes to Angela for her private critique and suggestions.

Check out #marteekakarland #hot #MC series #GrimRoad series. Save at #changelingPress #Rocket #Lemon #Bullet These belong on your #keeper shelf

Rocket: My life pretty much took a hard left a year ago when I first met Lemon. She’s wise beyond her years and as abrasive and sarcastic as they come. The second she busts my VP’s balls -- literally -- I know I’d never be able to forget her. A year later I’m still infatuated with the vicious woman. When she runs off to charge hell with a water pistol, I’m right behind her wondering how we’re gonna get out of this one alive. But I have a smile on my face and a determination to give this woman anything she wants. Even if it means some things in my club are going to have to change.

Lemon: Look. This is supposed to be all about how Rocket caught my eye and I decided I wanted him but there were obstacles and… phfffffff… Forget all that. What you need to know is when people are stupid, they need a kick in the… Crap. I’m not supposed to swear here. Grrrrr! Anyway, this is where I come in. Grim Road needs fixing. I’m not exactly qualified to do club… garbage, but Rocket? Yeah. I might have decided I’ll keep him, so… I’m great at whipping people into shape. Grim Road, meet Lemon. See me, love me, MF’ers.

Rocket: Just pass me the beer and popcorn…

Lemon: I’m settling in at Grim Road in my role as vice president. The men test me, but it’s all in good fun. I think I enjoy it as much as they do. Then, out of nowhere, things go horribly sideways. I realize how much weaker I am physically than everyone else in the club. That weakness can be a horrible liability. Yeah. Things are going great. Until they aren’t. I may have bitten off more than I can chew…

Rocket: My little sourpuss is a force to be reckoned with. She takes everything dished out to her and gives it back in spades. She’s my VP, but she’s also my old lady. Sometimes, I need to take care of her. More importantly, she has to let me. That fact is never more apparent than when a small team of roughnecks think she’s a woman from another club.

Kissed by the Alien is the second book of the Holiday Heartmates series by Julie K. Cohen.

Lexi is amazing! She’s strong, brave, resourceful, fearless, stubborn and feisty. And she has such a kind and compassionate heart. Even more, I loved her courage, determination and confidence to do the things she does and to face any challenges and hardships thrown her way. Lexi is a wonderful woman and I loved her so, so much!

And Lutan is such an incredible male! He’s brooding, quiet, fearsome and not very fond of Earth. And he’s also honorable, kind and fiercely protective. But the Zyanthan warrior also carries so much guilt and pain inside his heart. Nevertheless, Lutan is amazing and I adored everything about him!

I absolutely loved everything that happened between Lexi and Lutan! While on a mission to track down illegal blasters that keep finding their way on Earth, Lutan captures a male who turns out to be no man at all. I loved those two together! I loved their instantaneous attraction and their chemistry was fantastic. Even more, their banters, bargaining and teasing were so much fun to read. Lexi and Lutan might seem to be on opposite sides of the law, but they fit so well together. I loved how protective Lutan was of Lexi and I adored Lexi for standing her ground and never backing down from challenges and danger. And, yet, both had so many things they needed to deal with. Lutan also really did his best to stay away from Lexi, but fate cannot be denied. And when they couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another anymore, the passionate moments they shared were so hot! I just love the Zyanthan warriors and all their… extras! Lexi and Lutan were so perfect for each other and, after everything both went through, they deserved to find happiness and love together!

Overall, Kissed by the Alien is another fantastic addition to the series! It’s filled with suspense, danger, action, drama, angst, twists, betrayals, humor, scorching hot passion and magnificent characters.
