It’s not Keith’s hair which I think is girly with all those layers. It’s the soul patch, that is perfectly centered under his bottom lip, either he spends a long time in front of the mirror making it that way, or more than likely he pays out the ying yang to have someone else do it. I bet he puts hair product on it too. Ugh! I like a man with faults. If he’s a real guy’s guy, he probably celebrates them.
One of the things I love about contemporary romances is that the author gets the chance to explore the normal relationship without fangs and claws of a paranormal taking over. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve never passed up a good romance based on genre, I love scifi, paranormal, and suspense. Like a lot of readers my age, I cut my romance teeth on those big bodice ripping historicals, and please don’t hold back the heat on my account, because I think spice is very nice.
But sometimes, reading about guy who’d have to struggle to change a tire, can’t read the heroine’s mind or tell how aroused she is by the noting the change in the temperature of her skin, is really refreshing. It’s like being back in the high school again. Your heart pounds as you wonder if he’s going to get up the nerve to kiss her. Will he figure out that she wants him as much as he wants her? The Oh my God! Will they ever do it? is as much a part of the suspense factor for me as who-done-it. I love losing myself in the hero and heroine’s relationship, their locale, their very world for the time that I am between the pages of the book. That happens more for me with the characters themselves than the bells and whistles.
My questions:
Do you have a favorite character? I know this is like having a favorite kid, and I promise not to let any of the others hear about it.
Is there a certain time of day you write? A certain thing you do to get into writing mode? Music etc?
How do you come up with new ideas? Do you plot your books out or just let them flow as the ideas come to you?
Many authors have someone in mind when they write their characters, do you have someone for yours-besides your friend’s hubby, I mean?
