Lucy Toomey is the epitome of a workaholic. She has sacrificed much of her life lately to getting her boss into the White House. But when her older sister suddenly dies, Lucy must go back to her childhood hometown; a place she has tried to avoid her whole adult life.
Lucy’s sister Alice had an accident in her teens which left her mentally impaired. She was content to stay in their hometown. But the terms of her will bring Lucy back, and she learns that there is a whole side to her sister she never knew; one that she would have liked to have known.
As Lucy navigates her way through her own thoughts and grief about her sister, she finds herself at war with her career. She is planning on going to Washington, but will her time spent in Nilson’s Bay change her mind? As she meets friends of her sister, and lives as her sister wished, she is beginning to understand her past and is finally looking forward to a future.
Ms. Bostwick has done it again; taken her readers on an emotional journey of love, loss and life. Lucy and Alice’s story is one that is hard to describe, yet one that you must read. Forgiveness as well as changing your views at times is a hard yet rewarding choice to make, yet The Second Sister makes you look at just that. I am awaiting the next work of art from Ms. Bostick; this reader is definitely a fan.
