Charlotte Raven has managed to escape poverty by sheer luck and the help of a Society lady. Yet she still maintains ties to that other life which are hard to break as she tries to help as many others as she can.
Lord Edward Durnham is investigating the movement of gold out of London to learn where it is going and who is involved. As he is investigating, his paths cross with Charlotte, only to find that people they both know just may be involved.
Trying to find out the truth is getting more dangerous by the minute for both Charlotte and Edward. They gather information from the seediest part of town to the area where the rich and high society dwell. They also find themselves attracted to each other, but is it the right time to embark on a romance, and can Charlotte take that leap of faith to do so?
Treachery, deceit, greed, and revenge seem to rule those involved in this scandal. The Emperor’s Conspiracy transports the reader to another place and time from the worst areas to live, to high society balls making you feel as if you are right in the middle of the story. You also find yourself wondering just what will happen on the next page and just who the heck is involved. Definitely worth the time to add to your collection to read.
