The awakening of his dragon soul twin, Llewlyn, brought Dragshi Lord Branin near-eternal life, but not happiness. As a dragshi, he can take on dragon form and know the freedom of flight, however, both are the last of their kind and have waited millennia for their mates. The firebrand raider, Lady Broch is more than willing to fulfill that position — with or without Branin’s willing cooperation.
When a faint thought impinged on Branin’s mind, hope for an ending to eons of loneliness soared. Plagued by doubts because no signs of a dragon shifter’s birth have been seen, Branin searches the world for the mysterious girl he only knows by the name, Anastasia.
All that stands between happiness and a lifetime alone is destiny—and Broch.
A question often asked of an author is who is the character based on. The inspiration for Dragon Destiny, the first book in the Dragshi Chronicles, was a young girl whose mother was serving overseas.
Even though the difference betweeen the character and real was quite a few years, one of the challenges was aging the main character. When I first met her, she was a young woman who had lost her mother and is trapped in her role in life. Not because she’s done anything wrong, but because she is so good at what she does. Her sense of duty kept her serving her family and clan when she would rather be at a guild learning a craft or trade. My challenge was “How do I cover the years until, if fate agrees, she can assume the role of a dragon lord?” Or if not that, at least as an arbiter of justice. The transition finalized in my mind when I received the cover for Dragon Destiny and saw her portrait by Fantasia Frog Designs. The real Anastasia’s great-grandmother looked at the pose and attitude and stated, “That’s Anastasia.”
While her destiny is being determined, among the adventures was the one recorded in the following excerpt. It was one of the scenes I enjoyed writing. Although the reader knew who the hero of the story was, I wanted to at least give Anastasia some choices as to the man in her life. And as often happens, as we age what we want or need in a mate changes. Enjoy the competition. https://coffeetimeromance.com/CoffeeThoughts/time-to-fly-with-the-dragshi/
