I must say, I have had a terrific time today. As promised I will end my day here with a bit on how those in uniform inspire me and find their way into my heart and work. And I’ll tell you what I have in the works for the next few months. Like I said this morning, after the college years and a few different trades, a knight in tarnished cammies found me. We enjoyed a brief courtship and were married within weeks of meeting. Over the next few months I enjoyed a crash course in “marine wifing” from a couple of more seasoned wives. Thank goodness for those two! They helped me so much and I am eternally grateful for their kindness. After a few months of Wifing 101, I found myself on an international flight headed for Okinawa, Japan. Holy muses! That was the adventure of a lifetime. For three years, we kicked it around the island, then returned stateside to live in Virginia for a few months, then in North Carolina, where we’ve bounced between a couple of bases over the last few years. I’ve endured three deployments so far through the conflicts in the Middle East and am about to endure another one. It’s not an easy life, but it’s the one I chose and though the burden can get tiresome at times, I love my life and wouldn’t change a thing.
I am so very proud of my husband and all his brothers and sisters he serves with. They are filled with a pride few exude, an integrity few possess, and courage seldom found. They are dominate and demanding, protective and possessive. But inside they are soft, warm, kind and caring”¦human. It is the mixture of the protective dominance and interior warmth”¦humanness that draws me to them, makes me position them as central characters in my stories. And after fourteen years, there’s not much technically I don’t know about them or this life. What I don’t know my husband can tell me, and what he doesn’t know he can find out. I pride myself on being able to depict our lifestyle realistically and show the rest of the world that we too are just normal people living an extraordinary life trying to get along in this world. I hope my readers find all this to be true of my work.
So, what do I do when I’m not working? Well, I’m rarely not working. But, when I get time, I love to hang out on the many beaches in the area, take trips to the local museums and aquariums, and I love field research trips. Believe me, I end up in some of the most interesting places. Just recently I visited a gentlemen’s club and did some observing and interviewing in order to get further inside one of my female character’s heads. Piper McGee. She’s the heroine in book one of a series I’ve got in the works called The Sergeants of Echo Company. Yes, you guessed it””the three stories are centered around three marines all of whom have become involved with three very troubled women. These girls carry more baggage than a Boeing 747. Piper’s hero is named Alec and after years of getting what he wants, when he wants it, without resistance, he’s caught flat aback when Piper isn’t that easily swayed to his way of thinking. In the second book, you’ll meet Brady””a very practical down home boy with traditional values who just happens to fall for a girl named Liv. And guess what”¦Liv’s a firefighter. Not your average traditional female role. Last but not least I will introduce you to a man named Hunter who’s run from his family legacy for so long he’s nearly forgotten who he is. Until Abby comes along and tests every ounce of fortitude he possesses and some he didn’t know he possessed. Don’t tell my very own Marine, but I’m 100% in love with Hunter.

14 years agoYour post brought tears to my eyes! My late husband was a Korean Marine vet, home long before we met and a son and son-in-law served in the Kuwait period. I know the pride one feels and also the worries, the fears. But it is an honor to be part of the family of our brave warriors. God bless them!!
