Greetings from a very balmy England!
We’re enjoying the last days of summer here (although, if the weather reports are anything to go by, we’re in for some more glorious weather!). I’m sitting at my dining room table with a cup of tea and some cake. This is my normal writing spot. I like it because I can see everyone coming and going and, most importantly, the kettle isn’t too far away. We seem to thrive on tea in this house.
One of the questions I get asked a lot is how I came to be writing Steampunk. To be truthful it was, well, an accident. I’ve always loved the books of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells and, on one journey to the south coast, I found myself at Crewe railway station. There are walls with bricked up arches and I found myself wondering what was behind those bricked up arches (other platforms, but there’s no fun in that!). As I boarded the next train, I began scribbling down ideas and the first book, Mars on the Rise, was born from that. The books are based on the south coast, in the fictional city of Svenfur and, so far, there are three books in the series, with the possibility of three more.
I come from a family of engineers so that gets worked in to the stories and all the machines are, to the best of my knowledge, working creations. I have my father, my brother, and two of my uncles to thank for that. Deep down, I think they quite enjoy seeing what they can come up with! And there have been a few moments of one-upmanship!
Anyway, I shall leave you all to read the other wonderful posts and thank you for your time! Do come and say “Hi!” at the website or on Facebook. There’s plenty of other friendly Steampunk people on there, and we’re always making tea and coffee. Thank you so much for having me and I hope you’re all having a wonderful Labor Day!
Much love,
Rae Gee 🙂 x
