J.R. Bell, John, finally has his life savings and deed to his land. He wants a new start, no longer wishing to be the fastest gunfighter west of the Mississippi.
Evellyn, Eve, Southerland lived the simple life on the frontier. When she catches her husband in bed with another woman, she throws him out and gets a divorce.
John is tired of running and plans to either become a rancher or a farmer. After killing Sam Swenson’s half-brother in self-defense, his life has never been the same. It took him a good while to get what Sam stole from him, his money and land. Now six years later, he returns to Shadow Creek for a change. After meeting Eve, he is certain she is the woman for him. Eve is intrigued with the gunfighter from Kansas. He is nothing like her ex-husband who thought cheating was no big deal. John and Eve hit if off real well until she learns Sam Swenson has hired a gunfighter to kill John. Will she and John ever have the happiness they deserve or will this man be the one to ruin their happiness?
Showdown in Shadow Creek is an intriguing story of feisty woman, gunfighters, outlaws, men playing poker and a part of the old west that springs to life. The many characters that come into play are robust. They blend well together with just the right elements to hold the readers attention. John and Eve are vibrant. I enjoyed the way A.C. Croom sketched their behind the doors lovemaking. He makes the streets come alive as well as gives the reader a feeling of anticipation, along with John, as he looks over his shoulder. He makes a great believable page-turner that makes me want more.
