When you hear the name C. L. Wilson, you think exotic settings, stunning cover art, and stories that you never want to see end. I was thrilled when C. L. agreed to participate in Santa Watch and share with us what she has in store for us in the near future. I know you’re just as excited as I am, so please welcome NYT best selling author C. L. Wilson.
Santa watching has been a holiday pastime of mine since I was a child. My sisters and brother and I used to wait up all night long on Christmas Eve””too excited to sleep, and plenty mischievous enough to get into trouble had our parents not laid noise traps (crinkling paper grocery sacks) in the hallway outside our bedroom. So there we’d be, effectively stopped from sneaking downstairs to see what Santa brought, and too antsy to rest. So we’d spend many a long, late-night Christmas Eve hour, sitting beside breath-fogged, frost-covered windows, scanning the dark, starlit skies for that tell-tale red glow of Rudolph’s nose and listening hard for the faint jingle of far-away sleigh bells.
After my own children were born, logging on to NORAD’s Santa Tracker quickly became a holiday tradition. “Where is Santa now?” we’d ask, and the kids’ eyes would grow huge with excitement and anticipation as they crowded around the computer to get news of the latest Santa sighting, jumping up and down as that famous jolly elf and his sleigh grew closer and closer to where we lived.
But long after we turned off the computer and sent the kids to bed, when my husband and I finally turned in for the night, we’d stop by their rooms, crack open the doors, and smile to see another generation of children, breathless, giddy, too excited to sleep, crowded around a window, small hands pressed against the panes, as they scanned the night sky in search of a magical, reindeer-drawn sleigh.
For me, love, family, and children are the greatest joys of Christmas and life, as well as being essential to happiness and happy endings, which is why I write romance and why so many of my books prominently feature children, including my new short story, THE NOAH, coming out January 1, 2013 in the The Mammoth Book of Futuristic Romance and current WIP, THE WINTER KING, whose release I hope to announce soon.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from my family to yours. May the coming year be filled with joy and many blessings.
