I lived in Houston, a suberb called Sugar Land, when I worked as a Sr. Financial Analyst for a major oil company. The setting for my first romance, THE MISTLETOE AFFAIR is Houston. I used a lot of the places I shopped or visited when I lived there.
When my two friends were going through nasty, dangerous divorces, all I could do was stand by them through the horrible ordeal. I later channeled that anger into writing my first romance. It was my chance to have a divorcee battle her ex-husband, find a love that would heal the bitterness inside her, and the way she handles the ex is priceless. It’s one of those, “I wished I had done that moments.”
Here’s the blurb for THE MISTLETOE AFFAIR, an e-book with Triskelion, coming in paperback this December and available for advance orders at Borders or Amazon.com.
After losing her father, divorcee Katherine Cahill goes back home to Houston and fights to return the joy of Christmas to her mother and young son. At the same time she secretly battles two men, her two-timing ex-husband who blackmails her, and her growing attraction for a Texas attorney hell-bent on sharing his bed, but not his heart.
I live in Dunnellon, FL now. For HIS FARM, HER CIRCUS, a romantic comedy set in Ocala, FL at a Thoroughbred horse farm, I visited several horse farms and probably drove them crazy asking questions and taking pictures of the facilities. After touring the horse farms, I went to the race track to see them train horses. Ocala is the Thoroughbred Horse Capital of the World. I cornered a couple of veterinarians so they could help me get the facts correct in my book. It was a hoot to write and I used several characters from real life. No, they wouldn’t recognize the final product in the book, but I do.
I’ve travelled to Alaska for another book I have plotted, which is a romantic comedy. I love Alaska.
Wow, Bonnie. I wished I had a few pounds I could lose in my breasts. I’ll take the pounds you don’t want in that area. You’re right though. If you go on a cruise, it’s best to lose the pounds before you go because they feed you 24/7. I can’t resist ice cream and pizza or the midnight snacks. My downfall.
That chocolate cake you mentioned sounds good.
