Reed Caldwell is a Sheriff’s Deputy in Sweetwater Springs. He still has feelings for Addison but is bitter about the divorce and avoids her whenever possible.

Reed is well aware that his ex-wife inherited her aunt’s house and has moved back to town with her adopted daughter. He has made sure their paths have not crossed and would be happy to keep it that way. One night on his way home from his shift, he hears a 9-1-1 call from Addison reporting that someone had broken into her home, so he responds, only to encounter two armed men who kidnapped the baby, Emily. Reed has a bigger stake in this crime than he realizes–Emily is not adopted, she is his daughter.

This is an exciting and suspenseful novel with a good plot and realistic characters. The premise is a bit far-fetched, but the story is exciting. Reed and Addison are appealing characters with as much if not more baggage than the average divorced couple, but their love for little Emily brings them back together. The mystery and suspense portions kept me guessing until the end of the story.
