Thursday 13 Actions to Say I Love You

Happy February–the month of love! Love for your family, yourself, your pets (one of my favorites) and, as a self-help author says, love for no reason–and every reason.

Of course, as an author who writes romances, February also means romantic love. For this Thursday 13, I asked my fellow Rogue's Angels–four of us who have been critique partners for many years and now write for Rogue Phoenix Press–to share how the characters in our books say "I love you" by their actions. Here's what we came up with:

1.  Building a time machine to save his wife from her misadventures before they happen. (Horace and Maddie in "St. Batzy & the Time Machine" by Genene Valleau in the anthology, A ST. PATRICK'S DAY TALE.)

2.  Caring for his first love's daughter, even though she married another man. (Mitch and Abby in REKINDLED LOVE by Rosemary Indra.)

3.  Agreeing to leave his beloved meadow home when his mate decides to move into Faetown (Faeries Kayne and Ailidh in "The Lending Library" by C.L. Kraemer in A VALENTINE'S ANTHOLOGY.)

4.  Standing by the heroine's side when harassed by her ex-husband. (Kevin and Miranda in EVERLASTING LOVE by Rosemary Indra.)

5.  Saving the heroine's life with a tackle and a fog machine. (Zach and Lauren in THE LEADER OF THE BAND by Genie Gabriel.)

6.  Spending as much time in her dragon form as she can after falling in love with a full-blood dragon. (Shapeshifter Aleda and dragon Cyre in DRAGONS AMONG US by C.L. Kraemer.)

7.  Landing in the lap of a supposed "enemy" during a traditional Sunday brawl in historic Ireland. (Casey and Kelly in "Star Crossed" by Christine Young from A ST. PATRICK'S DAY TALE.)

8.  Not wavering in his intent to marry the heroine even when confronted with an uncle whose inventions malfunction, a mother caught in a 1950s time warp, and an aunt who takes over her own kidnapping. (Ian and Rissa in "Chasing Rainbows" by Genene Valleau in A VALENTINE'S ANTHOLOGY.)

9.  Writing a love song for the heroine. (Geoff and Shannon in THE ROCK STAR by Genie Gabriel.)

10.  Repairing the heroine's family home after it's ravaged during the Civil War. (Micah and Elice in "The Gift" by Christine Young in A VALENTINE'S ANTHOLOGY.)

11.  Letting the heroine rescue her children while he plays a supporting role. (Mitch and Julia in THE BODYGUARD by Genie Gabriel.)

12.  Moving into his best friend's house to care for her when she injures her ankle. (Scott and Penny in THE LOOK OF LOVE by Rosemary Indra.)

13.  Setting aside a personal crisis that has shaken the foundation of her life to celebrate the arrest of a bad guy by her law enforcement lover. (Marly and Dawson in PICTURE PERFECT LEGACY by Genie Gabriel.)

    All the "romantic" actions of the characters in the books show that sometimes the smallest thing can be the biggest gesture of love.  Great post!

      Thanks, Laurel! This year, February has truly become the month of love for me. Not just buying flowers and chocolate, but showing a deeper love by actions. It’s very moving to revisit stories and look at the heroes and heroines through that perspective.

    And hello, Ellie! As I mentioned to Laurel, it's really moving to go back through stories and look for the actions of characters that say "I love you." Perhaps before they realize it themselves or are ready to say The Words.

Kissed by the Alien is the second book of the Holiday Heartmates series by Julie K. Cohen. Lexi is amazing! She’s strong, brave, resourceful, fearless, stubborn and feisty. And she has such a kind and compassionate heart. Even more, I loved her courage, determination and confidence to do the things she does and to face any challenges and hardships thrown her way. Lexi is a wonderful woman and I loved her so, so much! And Lutan is such an incredible male! He’s brooding, quiet, fearsome and not very fond of Earth. And he’s also honorable, kind and fiercely protective. But the Zyanthan warrior also carries so much guilt and pain inside his heart. Nevertheless, Lutan is amazing and I adored everything about him! I absolutely loved everything that happened between Lexi and Lutan! While on a mission to track down illegal blasters that keep finding their way on Earth, Lutan captures a male who turns out to be no man at all. I loved those two together! I loved their instantaneous attraction and their chemistry was fantastic. Even more, their banters, bargaining and teasing were so much fun to read. Lexi and Lutan might seem to be on opposite sides of the law, but they fit so well together. I loved how protective Lutan was of Lexi and I adored Lexi for standing her ground and never backing down from challenges and danger. And, yet, both had so many things they needed to deal with. Lutan also really did his best to stay away from Lexi, but fate cannot be denied. And when they couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another anymore, the passionate moments they shared were so hot! I just love the Zyanthan warriors and all their… extras! Lexi and Lutan were so perfect for each other and, after everything both went through, they deserved to find happiness and love together! Overall, Kissed by the Alien is another fantastic addition to the series! And Lutan is such an incredible male! He’s brooding, quiet, fearsome and not very fond of Earth. And he’s also honorable, kind and fiercely protective. But the Zyanthan warrior also carries so much guilt and pain inside his heart. Nevertheless, Lutan is amazing and I adored everything about him!

I absolutely loved everything that happened between Lexi and Lutan! While on a mission to track down illegal blasters that keep finding their way on Earth, Lutan captures a male who turns out to be no man at all. I loved those two together! I loved their instantaneous attraction and their chemistry was fantastic. Even more, their banters, bargaining and teasing were so much fun to read. Lexi and Lutan might seem to be on opposite sides of the law, but they fit so well together. I loved how protective Lutan was of Lexi and I adored Lexi for standing her ground and never backing down from challenges and danger. And, yet, both had so many things they needed to deal with. Lutan also really did his best to stay away from Lexi, but fate cannot be denied. And when they couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another anymore, the passionate moments they shared were so hot! I just love the Zyanthan warriors and all their… extras! Lexi and Lutan were so perfect for each other and, after everything both went through, they deserved to find happiness and love together!

Overall, Kissed by the Alien is another fantastic addition to the series! It’s filled with suspense, danger, action, drama, angst, twists, betrayals, humor, scorching hot passion and magnificent characters.
