Hi, Coffee Time Romance & More (and followers). Thank you for inviting me to visit your blog today. Let me introduce myself.
Mia Kerick. Wife. Mother. Best Friend. Author. Body Acceptance Crusader. Avoider of Cooking, Housework and”¦ Exercise.
I married my one true love 22 years ago on July 11th.
We were blessed with four amazing children.
My oldest daughter is a junior at Georgetown University with big plans for a semester in London, the exploration of Europe, and law school. I had better sell a lot of books, huh?
My second daughter is a freshman at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance. She has already danced professionally in Brazil and Zurich and will be teaching and performing in Germany on her Winter Break. She has danced almost every day since she was three. But don’t ask me about her injuries, because it would take me all day to fill you in on what’s up with her ankles.
My third daughter is a junior in high school. She is very involved in all kinds of activities, her favorite of which is the Unified Soccer Team where she plays soccer with high school students with disabilities. She is very sweet and I’m crazy about her, but she likes Urban Outfitters a little bit too much for our financial health. Again, I had better sell a lot of books.
My youngest child is my only son and he ONLY wants to play basketball. He owns a pair of basketball sneakers for every day of the week, except Sunday. Books””sell more books, Mia. His birthday is next month and he’s going to want his Sunday sneakers.
At this point in my life, with my husband at work all day and my kids at school, writing is what I spend most of my time doing. I will say it is my profession, but it is also my hobby. I could do it 24/7 and sometimes, when the family is busy, I do. Random Acts is my ninth published book. I have published five adult LGBT contemporary gay romance novels with Dreamspinner Press and four YA LGBT works of fiction with Harmony Ink Press. Writing fulfills me in a way I never expected to be fulfilled and I hope to spend many years perfecting my craft.
Best Friend. I finally decided to join Facebook a year ago because my career was taking off and I needed to be able to get in touch with my readers. And I did, and it was awesome. My readers have enriched my life by sharing their thoughts and excitement and love, and I have shared mine right back. And get this””I met a BFF through my interactions on FB, too. He’s another writer and I can say that he truly knows me and understands me. (Which is certainly saying something because I am complicated.) But this wonderful friendship is like fuel and it keeps me on track to being the best wife and mom and author I can be. I hope I offer the same sort of support to him.
Body Acceptance Crusader. I’m not kidding when I say this: I spent the better part of forty years on a diet. And at the end of those many years, my body is essentially the same as when I started. With all of those diets, my body always returned to the same set point. So for my fiftieth birthday, I gave myself a gift. I made a conscious choice to accept my body as it was””as it is. My birthday was about eight weeks ago. In these eight weeks of freedom I have made an effort to see myself as beautiful every time I look in the mirror. I have also chosen to see those around me as their perfect selves. I have created a Pinterest Board of gorgeous and confident plus-sized women and I look at it every day. I often post big and beautiful men and women on my Facebook page and my blog. I am working to accept myself, and I am looking to help others to change the way they see people.
Not the Best Homemaker. In regard to meals, my family refers to me as “The Lone Arranger.” Each night I see to it that something to for the family to eat is on the kitchen table””well, at present our table is piled high with”¦ things that are not in any way food-related. But I make sure there is food in the general vicinity of the kitchen table every night. Not food I actually made, but food someone made and I arranged for it to be in our kitchen at dinnertime. The way I see it is like this: Nobody goes hungry, and that’s what counts, right?
And housecleaning”¦I leave something to be desired in that department too.
Mia the Exerciser. In regard to exercise I will ask you this this: in some ways aren’t we all works in progress?
Here is a little about my latest release:
