Rambling thoughts and such on a Sunday

Hi! I’m really two people. Judith rochelle writes contemporary romances and romantic suspense, and Desiree Holt write erotic romance that runs the gasmut from contemp to suspense to paranormal. I never have to worry about having someone to talk to. (LOL!).  I live in the texas Hill Country-where today it is a chilly , very un=texaslike 20 degrees)-with my very own cowboy, our three cats and a herd of white tail deer. We have what I like to call a non-working ranch!

I am so wrapped up in romance and the HEA that I have the obsessive habit of reading the end of a book before I finish it. Gotta have that fuzzy, warm, isn’t-that-wonderful feeling, ya know? I cut my romance teeth on Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney, and I am so excited to see their books being reissued. They told such wonderful stories that grip the reader and carry you to faraway places, make you wish the hero would swoop down and take you away himself.

Now my romance reading is so varied I can’t even put it in a category. I love everything except horror. Nope,. no horror. Too old for nightmares. But I love reading romance so I especially love writing it. My heroes are all alpha males (yeah, I know, but I love the sheer dominance of them along with the desire to bring pleasure to their women). I’m especially partial to military, ex-military, cowboys, etc. But my heroines are all different-tall, short, blonde, brunette, redhead. But they have two things in common: none of them are skinny toothpicks and they are all feisty and sassy, even when the worst things possible are facing them.

I like to write series, I guess because I like reading them. I want to know what happens tio all the other characters in a story, and how the first ones I met are now getting along.

I’ll be popping in here a bunch todaym to talk about romance, heroes, settings, all those things, and telling you about my latest and my upcocming releases. And I’ll be holding a contest. But to win something, ya gotta post.

Come by and leave me your comments, Let’s have fun today.

Hey, Judith, or should I say, Desiree. 😆

I’m not partial to horror, but I do love paranormal romance. Victoria Holt wrote wonderful gothic romances. I like the fact that heroines come in all shapes and sizes now. In early romances, they were all innocent waifs, not something I can easily identify with. 🙂

    Hi Judith,
surely I cannot be the first to comment? I guess I have an advantage in that I’m in the UK, so I’m at least 5 hours ahead of America! I like to read romance too. I didn’t used to, but find the older I get the more I like a happy ending. I don’t want to have nightmares or feel depressed for days after reading about sad lives. Selfish, perhaps, but honest! I have a Tess Gerritsen on the shelf but I don’t know if I’ll ever read it. The Mills & Boon next to it might win out! It’s by Sophia James (Masquerading Mistress) and I believe she lives in New Zealand.

Judith, your energy and output astounds me! You’re my hero!

Hi Judith! I hope you have a wonderful Sunday on CTR. 🙂

I’m the same about series. Seems no matter what I aim for, I can always see a series branch in some form from it. 😆

I was a reader long before I was a writer too, but I think it really helped give me the structure to have a place to start. Seemed like the next logical step. 😉

    Good Morning, Judith!

I’m a published author of Paranormal sensual and erotic romance. I also enjoy writing series. My stories span shifters, gypsy magic, and sexy vampires. My heroines and heros are strong and willful. My strong point has been said to be well-fleshed characters and vivid imagery.

I too grew up reading Victoria Holt, Patricia Gallagher, and God bless her soul, Kathleen Woodiwiss. I look forward to hearing more about you and your thoughts on writing romance.

If you have a mind, please check out my website: http://www.romawolftales.com and blog: http://www.dayanaknight.blogspot.com

    Goood morning, Judith.

I’m Taylor Tryst and I write for EC. Like you, I write contemporary romantic suspense/erotica, with a huge dash of mystery thrown in to the mix. I’m working on a vampire novel now, and “Body Candy” will be released from EC on 02/18/09. Also, my first ebook, Leather and Lace is going print and will be available in the spring of 2009.
I also am a huge reader and have been my entire life. I love reading romantic suspense, mysteries, and thrillers. Even Stephen King…lol I do like to be scared, but I think there has to be a happy ending. I’m always disappointed when I read something that didn’t end with a HEA. In today’s world, we all need that little lift.

Good luck today and may you have amazing sales,

    Taylor Tryst

Oh, it’s so good to be here with my friend-old and new. NJ, I am so disappointed I won’t be able to see you at RT. Maybe next time? And Jen, I am so with you on Karin Slaughter. I think she did her readers a very great disseervice, and no matter how many emails she answer or how many nice letteres she posts on her web site, the simple fact of the matter is, she let us down. The last thing I want to get from a book is a bad feeling. So do yourtself a favor-don’t read it, and I never, ever slam another author’s book. But this one just cut my heart out. I

    MJ,
I always wanted to be someone’s hero! What a great compliment. Your check is in the mail! LOL!

I, too, enjoy serial books, especially if they are paranormal.
The only genre I won’t read is horror. I read to be entertained, not scared to death.

Interview with Celia Breslin
We are thrilled to have author Celia Breslin with us today. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to give readers a chance to get to know more about you and your work. While some questions may be traditional, you’d be surprised at what readers connect to. Sometimes the simplest ‘I can relate to that’ grabs their interest where nothing else can. So, let us begin.

Can you share a little something about Celia Breslin that’s not mentioned in your bio on your website?

Sure! I play piano, and I like to sing. Used to be a soprano, but now I’m more of an alto. I also like to work out every day. Weight training, cardio, walking, etc.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing stories since I was a kid. Mostly short stories back then. After college, I moved on to novella and novel-length work. I still do write the occasional short story, including The Night Hag, a dark modern fairy tale I wrote for Halloween 2023 (free to my newsletter subscribers).

What have you found most challenging about it?

I have more story ideas than I have time, LOL.

What does writing do for you? Is it fun, cathartic, do you get emotional?

Writing is definitely fun and fulfilling. I do get emotional about my stories, especially when I’m throwing all sorts of problems at my main characters. But then I get to cheer them on when they overcome the obstacles and achieve their HEA.

Describe what your writing routine looks like. Are you disciplined with a strict schedule, or do you have to be in the mood?

I try to write regardless of my mood. I like to stay connected to my WiP, so daily writing is a must.  I’m also an editor, so my typical workday includes both activities. Oh, and my daily workout!

Did you go into writing thinking that it would be a hobby or a job?

It started as a hobby when I was a kid/teen. Fast forward to adulthood…when my daughter was born, I thought, why not publish my stories? So, I started submitting my vampire series to publishers, and it was picked up. Writing has been one my job hats ever since.

Let's move on and give readers some insight into your personal life.

What are your pet peeves?  Being late, drivers...
