I have been trying to keep up with the Olympics as much as possible with my life. I have to say that the U.S.A. has done amazing so far! I have tried to get my three young children to watch with me. They liked to watch the horses jump over the fences, wanted the fencers to actually have a sword fight to the death and squealed like girls when the weightlifter broke his arm (they watched that a few times). Come to find out that there are a few semi new sports to the Olympics, BMX racing and Trampoline. Hum let’s think about these, Shall we? As I’m watching the TV in complete shock, both of my male children have decided that is what they are going to the Olympics for. I can’t even blink. Growing up we were taught that the Olympics were the best of the best getting together to compete. How did the Olympics choose the BMX team and the trampoline team? To make this so much more interesting the BMX team gets cheerleaders. Huh!?
I must admit the people on the trampoline have guts.
Don’t get me wrong I have been to an X games. I have two male children who think that is the best show since sliced bread. I enjoyed myself. I like to think of myself as a hip mom, I understand that times are changing and we must evolve or be run over. But is this what we get to look forward to for the winter Olympics? If so, break out the big new games:
-
Extreme snowman making (with cheerleaders)
-
Snow writing (male athletes only)
-
Ice fishing (bring on the cheerleaders)
-
Gingerbread house making
-
Bobbing for apples while wearing winter gear (Cheerleaders here also)
The next summer games
-
Finger painting (cheerleaders)
-
Mud pie making
-
Fly swatting (cheerleaders)
-
Mud Wrestling
-
Extreme tanning
-
Scab picking (with cheerleaders)
Enjoy these new games. If you can think of any more I would Love to hear your thoughts!

16 years agoThe Brits are doing stupendously, and I’ve turned from a Sportphobe to a real flag waving supporter.
This is mainly because we are participating in sports that no-one’s heard of like Extreme Procrastination, Water Slug Juggling and Greasy Shove-ha’penny.
But hey! who cares! Medals!

16 years agoI watched just a bit, but boxing? Everytime I tune into the cancels covering the Olympics I catch boxing! 😯 I’m not interested in boxing. I wanted to see the floor exercises and all I got was the medal presentations. 🙁 I guess I’ll just have to wait until we get to London. 😀

16 years agoI Love the Olympics! I have been up to 2 am almost every night to watch the games. This is actually the third time trampoline has been an Olympic event. I stopped worrying about athleticism when they added Rhythmic Gymnastics. It’s all fun to watch!!

16 years agolol yeah not sure what they will add next. But I did enjoy rthymic gymnatics. I have not watched this year cause it just does not hold my interest and then I do not know when the events I want to watch are even on. Oh, well.

16 years ago❓ Is cheerleading an actual olympic sport? 💡 If it isn’t I think it should be. I was a cheerleader from 5th grade through 10th grade. I saw broken bones, sprained ankles, concussions. And that is just the lighter injuries. If they are going to be doing trampoline and BMX biking(which i might add has not been around as long as cheerleading) then they should definitely add this to the program. i mean come on, you can get a scholarship to college from cheerleading. Has anyone heard of trampoline scholarships? I know I haven’t!!

16 years ago😯 The guys I work with are watching the beach volleyball cheerleaders more than the sport. Thought I was watching a football game there for a minute. And I agree with Danielle, cheerleading is definitely a sport, but it is just not so popular outside of this country unfortunately. Back to practicing my procrastinating for 2012!

16 years agoI was disappointed not to see more equestrian events, but will get my fix and see most of the competitors at the Hampton Classic next week.

16 years agoThanks for the chuckle. I can go to bed happy while the rest of you watch the Olympics for the next four or five hours.

16 years agoI enjoy the Olympics, particularly the human stories behind the events. I loved hearing about the boxer who came from nothing and won the gold. Also hearing that Phelps has ADD and was teased as a kid was inspiring to my own child who experiences the same thing. Makes winning a medal all the sweeter!
