Zacaria, Carrie, Smith refuses to let go of her home. It has not been easy running a ranch, with a few ranch hands, but it is all her grandfather left her. Unfortunately there is another part of the will she never saw coming.
Jedediah Jones arrives in Sweetcream looking for his bride. He has a legal document stating he must wed his bride by midnight or lose his half to the Lazy Jazy ranch. He does not plan to lose any precious land intended for him.
Carrie has no idea why the Judge wishes to see her unless it pertains to her grandfather’s will. She is surprised to learn she can keep her grandfathers land if she marries Jedediah Jones. Carrie will do anything to keep the ranch, but never wanted any part of a marriage. It appears her grandfather was friends with Jed grandfather, fifty-fifty all the way. Jed informs they have until midnight to marry or the ranch will turn over to the Mary of Mercy Orphanage. With very little time to spare, Carrie wants to make sure Jed is legit. She still does not wish to marry some stranger, but if it means she can keep her land, it may be the only thing left for her to do.
I absolutely loved Midnight Bride. The believable characters are realistic in everything they do. The dialogue is wonderfully written and the banter between Carrie and Jed is excellent. Tanya Hanson creates a great plot with a well-developed cast that keeps the pages turning. She allows the reader to feel as if they have stepped back into the 1880’s right inside Sweetcream, Texas, getting to know all the townspeople and even shopping in the general store. This superb read is one I will always treasure.
