I know I love writing m/m erotic romance, and my readers love to read it. On its face, this might seem strange. Why do we want to write and read about a couple of guys in love? How does that fit in with our fantasies of being swept off our feet by Prince Charming? Damn, the dude’s gay!
When I began to think it through, the thought of alpha males connecting with one another on an intimate, passionate level has the potential to be very sexy indeed. First the imagery itself is very powerful””two strong, sensual man tousling, touching, kissing, making love in ways women find exciting and perhaps taboo. Gorgeous male bodies pressing together in hot, muscular passion”¦excuse me while I go for a quick cold shower”¦
With BDSM romance, I like to take it a step further, guiding my readers past their comfort zone, but in a way that leaves them breathless. I want to take my readers by the hand and lead them into the heated waters of explicit male/male sex””from first kiss to final consummation. They become voyeurs of a world they, by definition, can’t be a part of. Through my stories I strive to draw them in, to let them connect for a moment with a different lifestyle, a different world.
I enjoy the theme of the clueless guy””he doesn’t know or refuses to admit he’s gay, or he doesn’t know or refuses to admit he’s submissive or, OMG, BOTH! Such was the case in Golden Boy, my very first m/m novel. This gave me an opportunity to delve into the dynamics of “coming out” along with finding the courage to commit in a loving D/s relationship.
In writing the story, I wanted to get behind the tough, sexy alpha hero that is Eric and explore his gentler side””his romantic impulses and the tenderness love engenders in him. I wanted to explore the conflict between the new lovers, with Johnny pulling back, uncertain of his own desires, and Eric forcing himself to go slow, even when Johnny presses for more.
I’ve gone on to write many more m/m novels, both BDSM and pure erotic romance. To date my m/m BDSM includes: Golden Man, Golden Man, Sub for Hire, Submission Times Two (m/m/m!), Masked Submission, Switch, and my m/m erotic romance includes: The Perfect Cover, Island of Temptation, Odd Man Out, Continuum of Longing, A Princely Gift, Blind Faith, Julian’s Second Chance, Polar Reaction, Handyman, Alternative Treatment and Wicked Hearts. I am nearly done with my latest manuscript, Texas Surrender, a m/m BDSM love story that takes place on a horse ranch in East Texas.
You can find all of these novels on my website: clairethompson.net, where you can read the blurb, check out the excerpt and see a few reviews.
Let me hear your comments””I’ve told you why I enjoy writing m/m erotic romance. Why do you like to read it?

15 years agoI’m pretty new to the whole M/M thing but in all honestly Handyman totally turned me on to this genre (seriously not hiney kissing here! LOL) For me it kind of puts you in a place where you can see another side of life. I understand the dynamics of a M/F relationship but when I read Handyman I wasn’t sure how things would work but seeing the vulnerability and the love in the story was amazing. It kind of gives you faith that “love” wins out no matter how it is shared and who is sharing it! (Hopefully that all made sense!)

15 years agoI love reading m/m stories. It’s a bit shocking, a bit edgey and so wonderfully erotic. The dynamic of two men together is just fascinating to me, and then you add the emotional aspect of two strong men falling in love and I am just hooked.

15 years agoOnly the idea of two man lovin’ each other and how they show it, does the trick. I can’t explain it, but it’s hot. Indeed, it’s the emotional aspect.
I like reading about it very much and i’m hooked as well. One of my favorite m/m authors is Chris Owen. And Lorelei James can do it to.
